Shabbat Shalom

I hope you and your families are well. Thank God, we had a meaningful trip to Israel and it was truly a pleasure to see many of our Stamford students thriving.

We look forward to welcoming Rabbi Nati Helfgot this Shabbat in partnership with the CCE of BHCA as a visiting Scholar. He will be giving the 10:30 AM Shiur on "Why Study Tanakh?" and speaking in between mincha and maariv on Shabbat afternoon on "Teaching the Mistakes of our Avot and Imahot".

We will be hosting minyanim on Shabbat morning at 7, 8, 9 am. In Honor of Veteran's Day, we will be inviting USAF veterans to join in the main sanctuary for the prayer for the United States Armed Forces. We are eternally grateful for their service.

God willing, the next teen minyan will be November 20th and Sephardic minyan on December 11th. Join our Havdalah in the Dark this Motzei Shabbat at 5:45 PM. Join us Sunday morning at 10:30 AM for a special virtual Shmitta Class from Israel.

Our Person-to-Person Food Drive has been extended to Nov. 22nd. Please take a flier and bring a bag of food to the shul this coming week. Of course, join "Giving Thursdays" to support the Freedberg Kosher Food Pantry each week.

Stay tuned for many upcoming Chanukah events for all ages! Details on the website. We will also be hosting a Seniors Family Feud and Sing Along Chanukah morning brunch at the shul on Thursday, Dec. 2nd at 10 AM. RSVP to Kim at kmahoney@cas-stamford.org.

As always Thanksgiving is an opportunity to give back to our community. Join the Men's Club in preparing and serving meals to the local EMS. Thank you Ari Goldstein and Adam Furmansky, chairs of Sunday's Waffle Event for organizing a concurrent thank you card activity for delivery to our First Responders on Thanksgiving morning.

Finally, reserve the following dates for special Shabbatot and Kiddushim. During COVID, we missed many opportunities to share a special occasion with our community. Now is your chance, thank God, to share the joy!

November 27th - Homecoming and Graduation Kiddush

December 4th - Simcha Kiddush celebrating Life Cycle events

December 11th - Life and Legacy Kiddush honoring our First Year Participants

We are blessed with many wonderful opportunities at Agudath Sholom and appreciate everyone coming together to make our shul and community such a special place. God willing we will share more good news in the weeks ahead.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Agudath Sholom and the Life & Legacy Initiative

Agudath Sholom is proud to be one of more than 680 Jewish organizations across North America that have secured over 1 billion dollars in legacy commitments to ensure a bright Jewish future.

To date, our collaboration with 10 other Stamford organizations, United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation's LIFE & LEGACY initiative, has led 97 donors just like you to commit gifts of over 4 million dollars to local organizational endowments.

Without writing a check today, you too can do your part to help the Agudath Sholom build our endowment and help build the endowments of the other Jewish organizations in our community you value, so we can weather turbulent times like these and adapt to meet evolving community needs.

This is a very simple process, and when Agudath Sholom reaches our first goal of 18 -25 Letters of Intent, we will receive a financial incentive grant that can be used immediately for any synagogue need.

Join our members who have already signed letters of intent. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment to Agudath Sholom!

Making Mitzvah Moments Update - Welcoming New Members  We are thrilled that Agudath Sholom has welcomed so many new families to our community with over 60 people in attendance at our brunch recently. We are grateful to all of the families who volunteer to host new members throughout the year who joined our "Hospitality" crew. If you would like to be involved in welcoming people in alternative ways to shabbat hosting, we also have people who meet new members for coffee in the week, deliver welcome packs, or phone them to check how they're settling in. If this is something you might like to get involved in, we'd also love to hear from you! Please contact Hilary Goldenberg at goldenberg.hilary@gmail.com or Rabbi Cohen for more info.

Making Mitzvah Moments Update - Healing Visits  The healing visits team is a CAS group who visit people in the hospital, facilities or at home. It is a meaningful way to lift people's spirits and make a difference. You can offer as much time as you have for each person. Every week we send out a healing visit update. To join the team, contact Rabbi Cohen at rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org.

To learn about other mitzvah opportunities, join our Making Mitzvah Moments Whats App group.

  • CHANUKAH PACKAGES FOR OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS In conjunction with Schoke Jewish Family Services, the Tobin family is running a drive to let this special group in our Stamford Jewish community know that we think of them and recognize the light they provide us. We will be collecting small grape juices, latke mixes, boxes of Chanukah candles and small boxes of donuts and donut holes. The packages will be delivered to community members during Chanukah, on December 3. Please contact Laura Tobin via email (laurabl@gmail.com) if you would like to help make deliveries and to donate any of these items, you can find bins at Bicultural Hebrew Academy and at the Tobin home, 35 Revonah Circle.

  • EMS FIRST RESPONDERS AND CAS THANKSGIVING Once again the CAS Men's Club is spearheading a fun event / activity that the Stamford EMS squads have come to rely on. There are four to five EMS teams that will come to the station house at free moments for the lunch we provide on Thanksgiving!

We are looking for volunteers to help prepare the food on Thanksgiving morning from 9 - 11 am at CAS.

Items we still need: 1 kosher Turkey, stuffing, salad items, cranberry sauce, and vegetables such as green beans, and cauliflower.

This in no way should reduce our efforts to collect for the Freedberg Family Kosher Food Panty but should be an additional mitzvah. This should be a fun event involving teens as well as older individuals.
