Shabbat Shalom

We hope you and your families are well and enjoying the beginning rays of summer. We arrived, thank God, safely in Israel and are looking forward to joining the Agudath Sholom participants in the journey of Body and Soul who arrive this coming week.

It is under the radar but the mitzvah of mezuzah is prominent in this week's Torah portion. Korach challenges Moshe whether a room full of Torah scrolls requires a mezuzah since the Torah itself contains the words in the mezuzah. Moshe argues that yes the room still requires one. The Lubavitcher Rebbe explains that Torah study alone is not enough but the feelings of love and awe of God as symbolized by the mezuzah are required as well. In this spirit, I want to remind everyone of our Free Mezuzah Campaign. If you know someone new to the area or a neighbor or friend who lacks a mezuzah, let us know and we will provide a free one and home visit to post it.

Both Friday night minyanim will meet this Shabbat. The 10:30 AM shiur will not be meeting. Rabbi Kurtz will lead a study session on Pirkei Avot Chapter 4 at seudah shlishit.

We will be launching Kiddush Ambassadors in August which will be a group of children committed to serving seniors during kiddush, wishing adults Shabbat Shalom and much more and will receive special prizes for their participation. If your child would like to be a part of this special group, please email me at rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org.

Stay tuned for special new programming over the summer including Shabbat Guest Speakers on next Shabbat July 9th with Rabbi Yisrael Ben-Porat, July 30th with Rav Boaz Mori and Mark Trencher on August 13th. There will be a summer series with Rabbi Kurtz on Torah and the Twilight Zone beginning July 11 and a Mikvah educational event on July 18th "Girl Talk but Make it Torah". We will host Dr. David Bernstein virtually on Tisha B'Av. More info on all events at cas-stamford.org in the weeks ahead.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and happy July 4th weekend,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

CAS and the Life & Legacy Initiative

CAS is proud to be one of more than 680 Jewish organizations across North America that have secured over 1 billion dollars in legacy commitments to ensure a bright Jewish future.

To date, our collaboration with 10 other Stamford organizations, United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation's LIFE & LEGACY initiative, has led 97 donors just like you to commit gifts of over 4 million dollars to local organizational endowments.

Without writing a check today, you too can do your part to help CAS build our endowment and help build the endowments of the other Jewish organizations in our community you value, so we can weather turbulent times like these and adapt to meet evolving community needs.

This is a very simple process, and when CAS reaches our first goal of 18 -25 Letters of Intent, we will receive a financial incentive grant that can be used immediately for any synagogue need.

Join our members who have already signed letters of intent. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment to CAS!
