CAS Yakar Shabbat
The theme for our annual Yakar Shabbat is Israel. Learn more about the history, spirituality, centrality and advocacy. Join us for a spirited Shabbat morning davening and learning in breakout sessions. Yakar is the name of a shul in Jerusalem known for its spirit and innovative approach to Shabbat morning Tefillah. Like the model Yakar, we will follow Shacharit and Torah reading with a kiddush at 10 AM, engage in Torah sessions in groups from 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM, and complete the service with Musaf. Thank you to the following educators:
  • Rabbi Elisha Paul of the Jewish High School of CT - Avira Deretz Yisrael: Exploring the Spiritual Dimensions of Israel
  • Josh Warhit of Stand with Us - Northeast High School Coordinator - Standing Up Tall: Answering Tough Questions on Israel
  • Elana Trombka of BCDS - Yerushalayim: The First City of Brotherly Love
  • Nahum and Shira Tal (Shiur in Hebrew) - Leaving Egypt in Haste and the Building of the Modern State of Israel
  • Yona Israel Goldman of BCDS - The Gift of Milk and Honey in the age of Oil
God willing, we will enjoy and grow from a stimulating morning of Torah learning and enrich our connection to the land and people of Israel.
On a different note, thank you to Matt Feinberg, Dan Marans of Zomet, and Richard Adamow of Unitech Sound for facilitating the recertification of our Zomet microphone system. The new certificate is posted on the wall outside the main sanctuary. As you may know, our sound system in the main sanctuary is under the halachic supervision of Zomet, an organization in Israel synthesizing Torah and technology.
Zomet approves the Western Wall metal detector and designs technology for Shabbat scooters and elevators. Learn more about Zomet at www.zomet.org.il. I encourage you to visit their new interactive museum on your next trip to Israel. It is great!
Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Heroic Children represents every stripe of young Jewish victim, from every corner of Europe and from every religious, national and socioeconomic background. What they all shared in common was an iron will to live- but not at all costs. Their determination to hold onto their dignity and principles makes these unforgettable stories a zenith of human achievement. Heroic Children, a work of prodigious scholarship and spellbinding narrative, is a new and compelling way to teach the history and universal lessons of the Holocaust.

Critically acclaimed author or Heroic Children, Untold Stories of the Unconquerable
Event Chairs: Lillian and Sandy Shapiro
Heroic Children represents every stripe of young Jewish victim, from every corner of Europe and from every religious, national and socioeconomic background. What they all shared in common was an iron will to live- but not at all costs. Their determination to hold onto their dignity and principles makes these unforgettable stories a zenith of human achievement. Heroic Children, a work of prodigious scholarship and spellbinding narrative, is a new and compelling way to teach the history and universal lessons of the Holocaust.
