Shabbat Shalom

One of the most important words in the Torah portion of Ekev this week is the name itself. The word Ekev means a heel. Rashi explains that Moshe is reminding the Jewish people to be careful of the seemingly minor or insignificant mitzvot that we might neglect or trample upon. This is a profound message. Observing Shabbat or Kashrut or the holidays are vital and public, but sometimes it is the small, private gestures of kindness that may make the most difference in someone's life. As I shared last Shabbat, the simple act of keeping a list of people for whom we are praying carries not only weight with God, but also offers a boost of strength and hope to a person who is ill. I am moved by the words of Leo Buscaglia who wrote, "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."

God willing, we will continue to deepen our roles to amplify God's presence in people's lives. Here are the links to join our Making Mitzvah Moment WhatsApp and Speter Friends WhatsApp groups.

This Shabbat, we wish tzetchem leshalom to Lillian and Sandy Shapiro, who are making aliyah. They have been an indelible part of our shul and community for over 45 years and we will miss them greatly! We are proud of them and wish them many blessings on their move and in their new home.

We also welcome participants of the Heart, Mind and Soul - Discover Magnificence Course. Rabbi Mark Trencher who together with his wife Sandy lead the Shabbaton will be speaking at seudah shlishit.

We are gearing up for the holidays. Please take a moment to read the announcements below. We are also excited to welcome Ithamar Kashi as Sephardic Chazan for the holidays for the Sephardic minyan and also to lead a monthly Sephardic service.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

CAS Youth News
Exciting Youth News

We are excited to welcome Dovi Siderson as the new CAS Teen Director and Stamford NCSY and JSU Director!

Special welcome to Devorah Weinstock, New England Region and Upstate NY NCSY advisor who recently moved to Stamford with her husband Scott.

Dovi Siderson was born and raised in Edmonton, a small city on the prairies of Western Canada. His small town enthusiasm and outdoorsy nature is what inspires his approach to and love for NCSY. For Dovi, NCSY is about family. It's about experience. And most of all, it's about getting out with friends and checking out what Judaism in Stamford is all about.

Dovi kickstarted his NCSY career by co-founding the Canadian NCSY Summer trip, J.A.W (The Jewish Adventure Week) in the Canadian Rockies. He spent the last year directing NCSY and youth programming at the Adas Israel Congregation in Hamilton, Ontario.

To be informed about upcoming events with Dovi - please join Teen Connection. Dovi can be reached at Dovi@ncsy.ca or 475-685-8206. Devorah can be reached at weinstockd@ncsy.org or 203-508-2634
