Parshat Chayei Sara more than almost any other Parsha speaks to the importance of legacy. Sara and Avraham die, but Yitzchak and Rivka embrace and perpetuate their values. Most notably, when Sara dies, the blessings in her home of the Challah, Shabbat candles and Divine cloud above disappear but return when Yitzchak brings Rivka into the tent, the home. As a shul, we are called upon to emulate the spiritual legacies of Avraham and Sara as well. They were known for the warmth of their home. SEMS is a 100% non-profit 911 organization that relies on the community for their support. Typically they have 4-5 crews (or teams) running that day stopping by for lunch as they can from 11:30-1:30pm. We cook up as many Turkeys as we get donated (usually 2-3) in the shul's meat kitchen along with various dishes, starting around 9 am until roughly 11:15 am. This is a fun event for the whole family as we usually have our youngsters cutting, cooking and preparing along with us. We are looking for 1) Food donations, 2) Time and effort donations and 3) Delivery effort. If you can donate a turkey, yams, beans, potatoes, cranberries, sugar, salad item or can assist in any way, please contact Mitchell Bell (wizdrbel@yahoo.com).
