Shabbat Shalom
Happy Rosh Chodesh Adar!

We hope you and your families are well! God willing the month will be filled with much joy!

Purim is around the corner. We will be offering multiple in person, indoor and outdoor and virtual opportunities for Megillah readings. It is not too early to make a contribution for Matanot L'evyonim, Purim charity, that will be distributed directly on Purim to families locally in need via JFS and in Jerusalem via Od Yosef Chai. To make a contribution, click here. Thank you!

The other two mitzvot of Purim are Mishlaoch Manot and the Purim Seudah. We are offering Purim to Go packages which are available without fee and without question for people who may be home alone for the holiday and/or not in a position to shop or share the Purim Seudah. To order them or be a sponsor, contact Rabbi Cohen at rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org.

Please note next Friday, February 19th, there will be readings of Zachor at 8:00 and 11:00 AM in shul and on Zoom in addition to the readings on Shabbat morning.

Prior to Purim, it is a special mitzvah to contribute Machatzit Hashekel in remembrance of the communal collection prior to Nisan and Pesach. To learn more, click here. This year we recommend two approaches: Drop Tzedakah into the shul pushka in the chapel on the Fast of Esther or donate online at least $1.50 to fulfill the mitzvah.

Please join me for shiur this Wednesday evening at 8 PM via Zoom for a presentation on Purim Issues This Year: COVID, Zachor, Purim, Erev Shabbat.

We will also be offering many social fun opportunities in advance of Purim including an Adult Jewish Trivia Night, Young Families Happy Hamentashen, Seniors Hollywood Costume and Kosher Movies with Rabbi Herbert Cohen, Purim Art with Morah Yael and Purim Magic! For more info, see the bulletin or visit www.cas-stamford.org.

Finally, thank God, more of our members are receiving the vaccine. If you are 65 and older and need assistance in signing up, please contact me.

This week, we will daven mincha on Shabbat afternoon closer to sunset followed by seudah shlishit, zemirot (without the food). I will give a shiur "Bringing God to Earth: Modern Applications of Mishpatim" which Diane and I are sponsoring in memory of my father in law, Isaac Jacobs, whose yahrzeit is on Sunday.

Wishing you and your families an Adar filled with much simcha and healing and a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Important Navaratna Update
Dear Community Members,

We thank you for your patience as we worked to ensure that Navaratna maintains the necessary standards for kosher certification. We have collaborated with the owner to implement updated protocols which will continue to enhance the level of kashrus. One such new feature will be the regular presence of an onsite mashgiach who will continue to be supplemented by our standard inspections.

Therefore, effective this Friday (2/12/21), we encourage all of our community members to resume patronizing Navaratna - http://www.navaratnact.com/. You can order online and pay via credit card or call the store (203-348-1070) and pay via venmo (@prakash-nath).

The goal of the VKFC is to provide Fairfield County with reliable kosher establishments and eateries. We thank you for understanding that any temporary inconveniences were in the efforts of serving our community. http://www.ctvaad.org/

Agudath Sholom and the Life & Legacy Initiative

Agudath Sholom is proud to be one of more than 680 Jewish organizations across North America that have secured over 1 billion dollars in legacy commitments to ensure a bright Jewish future.

To date, our collaboration with 10 other Stamford organizations, United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation's LIFE & LEGACY initiative, has led 97 donors just like you to commit gifts of over 4 million dollars to local organizational endowments.

Without writing a check today, you too can do your part to help the Agudath Sholom build our endowment and help build the endowments of the other Jewish organizations in our community you value, so we can weather turbulent times like these and adapt to meet evolving community needs.

This is a very simple process, and when Agudath Sholom reaches our first goal of 18 -25 Letters of Intent, we will receive a financial incentive grant that can be used immediately for any synagogue need.

Join our members who have already signed letters of intent. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment to Agudath Sholom!

Making Mitzvah Moments Opportunity
As you may be aware, the United Kingdom is entering a renewed lockdown. One significant concern is that those who are saying kaddish for loved ones will not have access to a minyan during this period of lockdown.
In the spirit of Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh Bazeh, we are partnering with our British brothers and sisters to support their community. A website has been established at theus.org.uk/kaddishvolunteers to allow those with access to a minyan to recite Kaddish for those who do not.
