Shabbat Shalom An Eternal Thought And Question Last Shabbat morning, we welcomed our local police officers and firefighters to CAS. It was a very heartwarming experience, which they appreciated. Take a moment to read their note below. I wanted to share the backstory of the event, as it is a reminder of the impact of not only one act, but one thought. I am in awe of how one holy thought can shake the world - if we act on it. Two weeks ago in Washington DC, I was moved by Sivan Yaari Borowich, founder of Innovation Africa, who shared how the question "What can I do to make the world a better place" inspired her. How many thoughts do we allow to disappear? She acted on hers and her organization is changing the face of villages in Africa. Upon returning from DC, I took a walk one morning and passed the local fire department, Engine 1 on Washington Blvd. Her question echoed in my heart. Rather than walk by, I decided to go inside the fire station and ask them "What can I do to help you?" The fellow on duty responded, "Just coming by to say 'Hi' means a lot." I realized that both the fire department and police officers have been working overtime due to the recent storms and no better time than now to say "Thank You." We invited them to Shul for this past Shabbat. It was heartwarming, deeply appreciated and a kiddush Hashem. click here to view their thank-you The story grows. Since last Shabbat, I was contacted by Sivan. She will visit CAS to share her story on Thursday, May 24th. Save the date! God willing, it will be a moving and memorable community event. We never know the power of one thought to shake the world, awaken the reality that we are all here to build a world of kindness and realize that we are all children of God. Thank you Sivan for your spirit. You impacted us without knowing it. In Stamford, your action sparked a glorious memory for our Shul, our police officers, firefighters and many more. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Daniel Cohen Mazal Tov to Sharon & Simeon Wohlberg, Jessica & Adam Furmansky, Roz Mangot and Rick Redniss on being honored at this Sunday's Annual Dinner! Thank you to Stephanie Bilenker and Liat Karsch, our fantastic Journal Chairs, and the entire Annual Dinner Committee for all their hard work in making the evening a success. |
Welcome special guest speaker Tamir Gilat, chairman of Israel Cancer Research Fund, Israel Chapter. Tamir was a successful businessman, lawyer (and formerly a professional goalkeeper for Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team) enjoying life when he was suddenly struck by two types of cancer and told he had six months to live. Seven years later, Tamir savors every day thanks to an experimental cancer drug, his doctor, luck and, in no small measure, personal fortitude. Today he counsels and supports other cancer patients and calls himself 'a soldier in the crusade against cancer.' |
In lieu of the sermon this week, following Sanctuary Kiddush at 11:30, please join us at 12 PM to hear the inspiring story of Tamir Gilat, a "soldier in the crusade against cancer." |
