Israel Solidarity Trip in March
Our planned Journey of Body and Soul trip to Israel in February has been postponed to Fall 2017 and details will be forthcoming. We hope for a quieter period in Israel in the days and weeks ahead. Yet, Israel is not alone. Plans for our MALT trip in Fall 2016 are underway and we are planning a brief solidarity mission to Israel in March. God willing, we will share exact information by next Shabbat.
One of our member families, David and Cindy Pitkoff, recently returned from Israel and shared the following: This trip felt different than the others in some ways but ends the same as all trips here. It is very difficult to leave Israel. Yes this trip was more tense, even more than the trip during the Gaza war. Unfortunately, looking over your shoulder at those walking close by becomes a natural instinct. Having said that, there is still something magical about walking the streets of Jerusalem, returning to visit friends, neighborhoods, and favorite restaurants. It is so easy to be Jewish here. It feels so much like home.
For those back home who have the ability, I urge you to come visit. The people who live here need to know that the American Jewish community not only stands up for them on policy issues, but stands with them here in person as well. Join a solidarity trip. Find an organization here to support. Attend a shiur in Jerusalem or go to a spa in Mitzpe Ramon. Whatever it takes, however long you can spare, come home to Israel. You will quickly discover not only how much your support means to Israel but more importantly, how much Israel means to you.
Wherever we may be, we always stand with Israel. If you would like more information about the March trip, please be in touch with me directly (rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org) in the week ahead. Thank you very much. Am Yisrael Chai.
Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Critically acclaimed author or Heroic Children, Untold Stories of the Unconquerable
Thursday evening, Feb. 11th
7:30 PM at Agudath Sholom

Heroic Children represents every stripe of young Jewish victim, from every corner of Europe and from every religious, national and socioeconomic background. What they all shared in common was an iron will to live- but not at all costs. Their determination to hold onto their dignity and principles makes these unforgettable stories a zenith of human achievement. Heroic Children, a work of prodigious scholarship and spellbinding narrative, is a new and compelling way to teach the history and universal lessons of the Holocaust.
