Chag Sameach Shabbat Shalom

Becoming a Mensch

Next week, we are blessed to host Stamford native and world renowned storyteller, Rabbi Hanoch Teller, as our Youth Scholar in Residence. His theme is Menschlichkeit. I cannot think of a better topic for all ages. Rabbi Teller will be speaking to our youth groups on Shabbat mornng and I encourage everyone, all ages, to join us for Shabbat lunch click here to sign up next week. With Pesach behind us, what could be better than a meal with friends at the shul on the topic of Honorable Menschen? Rabbi Teller will also speak before mincha and during seudah shlishit. We are grateful to the Dayans for sponsoring the weekend and look forward G-d willing to a great Shabbat event!

Much has been in the news recently about the Iran - U.S Framework for Nuclear Negotiations. Please see the Israel Update below regarding the important Corker Menendez Bill in the Senate and also this excellent article from Henry Kissinger and George Schultz. click here to read.

Finally, as we come to the close of Pesach, I am reminded of an insight Rabbi Ehrenkranz of blessed memory shared with me in the name of Rabbi Isadore Epstein of England. The Jewish holidays are intended to be rallying points for historic truths of our faith. The ideas must inspire us through the next seven weeks as we count towards Shavuot.

What one experience or idea will resonate within you this season?

Looking forward to a wonderful Yom Tov together. Wishing you and your families Chag Kasher Vesameach and Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Israel Action Update

  • The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is scheduled to consider the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 (S. 615) on Tuesday, April 14. This bipartisan legislation, authored by Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and cosponsored by 20 other Democratic and Republican senators, requires the President to submit any nuclear agreement with Iran to Congress and establishes a procedure for congressional review. Please call and urge senators on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to vote 'yes' and support the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. Capitol switchboard - (202) 224-3121. Thank Senator Blumenthal for his cosponsorship of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 and encourage Senator Murphy to support this important bill. Sample Phone Script: "I am calling the Senator to urge him/her to support the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 (S. 615) in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Limiting Iran's nuclear capabilities is critical to U.S. national security. Congress must assert its historic role in foreign policy and review the merits of any nuclear agreement with Iran."

Pesach Update

  • Chametz sold via Rabbi Cohen serving as your agent may be accessed after 830 PM on Saturday night.
  • All Vaad of Fairfield County establishments are permitted for patronage after Pesach.

Reminder

  • Don't forget to make an Eruv Tavshilin before the Chag begins. In order to allow foods prepared on Pesach to be eaten on the shabbat immediately following the festival. This entails two foods, reciting the bracha for Eruv Tavshilin and reciting the paragraph that accompanies the bracha. The two foods are then put away and eaten at the Shabbat day meal.
