| Technology or Torah? We live in a world bombarded by social media and 24 hours news. More than any other generation, we need Shabbat to recharge and reconnect. This coming Shabbat in communities across the world is the Shabbat Project to promote observance of this gift. Inspired by an initiative in South Africa, its goal is to encourage Jews to unite through the complete observance of one Shabbat, and the weekend chosen is this Shabbat Parshat Noach. For more information, click here). In this spirit of this effort, we are embarking on two community wide efforts. First, between now and Chanukah we encourage every member to invite a less affiliated neighbor, co-worker or friend (whom you might otherwise not consider inviting) for a Shabbat meal or other Jewish experience.Along with the benefits of living in a vibrant community comes a responsibility to share the beauty and blessing of a Torah life. One way of doing so is by sharing the richness and beauty of Shabbat and Torah living with fellow Jews in our community. Second, we will join organizations across our community for Shabbat Across Stamford on Friday night, March 13th. We will offer multiple services in one location and all share Shabbat dinner together as a united community. Service Notes: - next Friday night (October 31), we will conduct a "Carlebach-style" Kabbalat Shabbat service in the chapel with the Pella singers. Minyan starts at 5:38 and conclude approximately 6:45 PM. The Pella singers are joining us for Shabbat October 31-November 1 in honor of Gavriel Karsch's Bar Mitzvah.

CAS TEEN ADVOCACY FELLOWSHIPS FOR ISRAEL A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY DEADLINE: Sunday, November 16 Be one of fifteen teens to be selected for a free trip to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Policy Conference, March 1-3, 2015 in Washington DC. The trip will include registration, travel and hotel and the winners will join the Agudath Sholom AIPAC delegation. The participants will also be required to attend the Stamford JCC Speak Up for Israel program. To be one of the fifteen selected, submit a 500 word essay: "WHY DOES AIPAC NEED YOU?" If you could lobby the members of Congress on Capitol Hill, what would you say? What case would you present about the issues affecting the United States and Israel? Essays will be evaluated by a local and national panel of AIPAC supporters. Submit to Rabbi Cohen by Sunday, November 16 at rabbicohen@cas-Open to 9th-12th graders from CAS. - LINKING GENERATIONS OF THE SHOAH-Our 2nd Generation Group began in July 2012. We are a group of approximately fifty members ranging in age from 40 and up and we come from all over CT and Westchester County. This 6-week program will take place at the Yeshiva University Museum (15 West 16th Street) on Wednesdays, October 29 - December 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Sessions will feature Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik, Director of the Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought, Yeshiva University and Dr. Jacob Wisse, Director of Yeshiva University Museum and Associate Professor of Art History, Stern College for Women who will co-present on the topic of: "The Image and the Idea: An Interdisciplinary Seminar on Art History and Jewish Thought." Shabbat Nov 15 - Mini Minyan- Mini Shabbaton Families of Mini Minyaners - you will not want to miss this wonderful opportunity for your children to join together for a delicious Shabbat lunch at the shul. After lunch we will have some special activities and pickup is at 2:30 pm. We hope that this "mini shabbaton" will pave the way for future "full shabbatons" in Jr. Cong. and beyond!
Saturday Night, Nov 22 - Supermarket Sweep & Movie Night at CAS Start the night with Chessed and excitement at Stop N Shop. Each team has a mission and the winning team wins a prize. This year join the extra fabulous and challenging scavenger hunt. Every item purchased goes to the Kosher Food Pantry and helps poor people prepare for Thanksgiving. After the chessed portion of the program we will head back to CAS for a movie, dinner and ice cream! This is a night not to be missed!
