Shabbat Shalom
From every word in the Torah, we glean life messages. In an odd formulation, the beginning of Parshat Toldot informs us that Issac was the son of Abraham and Abraham fathered Isaac. Why the redundancy?
I gained a new insight this past Sunday when I joined a few of our members at the worldwide gathering of Chabad emissaries. It was an inspiring event to see thousands of people dedicated to the mission of spreading the light of Torah and God with warmth to all corners of the world.
One of the speakers explained the rationale for the seemingly superfluous information. Isaac as the son of Abraham refers to his identity and Abraham as the father of Isaac refers to Isaac's responsibility. We may be born Jewish but we should never forget that we also bear the obligation to embrace our mission as God's ambassadors. Whether professional shluchim (emissaries) or not, we all must rise to our sacred role in the world.
This responsibility manifests itself is so many ways. How do we advocate for Israel? How do we support our shul and community? How do we spread the light of Chanukah? Join me as we embark on a season filled with many opportunities to realize our responsibility to the future of the Jewish people.
Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Buy a Bond for Israel as a Gift for Chanukah. This Chanukah, give the gift of Israel to your children, grandchildren and relatives! For one night of Chanukah, particularly in light of the current situation in Israel, celebrate Israel and buy an Israel Bond. With bonds starting now at $36, and easily purchased online, this is a perfect gift for the holidays. The more ties we can forge between our children and the State of Israel, the greater likelihood they will understand and appreciate their Jewish heritage, and the stronger Israel will be in the future. Israel Action Update from Rabbi Daniel Cohen In response to the recent wave of Palestinian terrorism targeting Israelis, both chambers of Congress recently passed bipartisan resolutions-S.Res. 302 and H.Res. 293-in support of Israel's right to self-defense and calling on the Palestinian leadership to stop inciting violence. The resolutions, authored by Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) in the Senate and Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Ted Deutch (D-FL) in the House of Representatives, also express support for individuals and organizations working to encourage Israeli-Palestinian cooperation. In addition, on Nov. 5, 369 members of the House of Representatives sent a bipartisan letter, authored by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) and its Ranking Member Eliot Engel (D-NY), to Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas calling on him to take "concrete steps to avoid further violence." Please take a moment to thank members of Congress for standing with Israel and condemning Palestinian violence and incitement. click here to send them a letter

With bonds starting now at $36, and easily purchased online, this is a perfect gift for the holidays.
