Shabbat Shalom

Fred Rogers understood the secret of gratitude.

In his Emmy acceptance speech in 1997, he said, "It's a beautiful night in this neighborhood. So many people have helped me come to this night. Some of you are here, some are far away, some are even in Heaven.

All of us have special ones who have loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are. Those who have cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life. Ten seconds of silence. I'll watch the time. (10 Sec Pause)

Whomever you've been thinking about, how pleased they must be to know the difference you feel they've made."

Gratitude emerges from pausing for 10 seconds to contemplate the impact of people, both living and not, who "loved us into being" and without whom we are not here today. Moshe underscores this principle, one we emulate every Pesach. The farmer who brings his first fruits to Jerusalem, expresses his gratitude not simply by acknowledging the blessings of the moment but harking back in time hundreds of years to the moments which led to his celebration today. He begins with the threat of Lavan, the slavery and redemption from Egypt. History offers context. Take Ten Seconds today and each day to reflect on people in your life who have helped you become who you are today. If you can, reach out and say Thank you.

We are honored this Shabbat to host Rabbi Mark Wildes of Manhattan Jewish Experience and his wife Jill. Rabbi Wildes will speak briefly at Friday night davening and at an Oneg hosted at the Faizakoff's at 9 pm. He will also deliver the sermon in the Sanctuary following Musaf, give a shiur before Mincha and engage in a conversation about his book The 40 Day Challenge.

We will also offer minyanim on Shabbat morning at 7, 8, and 9 AM as well as a Sephardic Minyan at 9 AM due to popular demand. We are grateful to Bob Abrams who will be leading a monthly Fundamental of Prayer Class at 10 AM-10:30 AM in the old office. Dovi, our Teen director, wil be leading a Kiddush and Convo during the main kiddush as well.

Join us this Saturday night for our Pre Selichot Panel at 9 pm followed by Selichot at 10 pm or 12:57 am and the sunrise service at Cummings Beach on Sunday morning at 6:10 am.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and Ketivah VeChatimah Tovah,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Message from Duvie Shapiro  Shalom CAS Congregants from Jerusalem!

I'm really looking forward to joining all of you for the Yomim Noraim this year!

With Hashem's help, we will have a beautiful and uplifting davening together. I'm counting on you to join me as we sing and pray to Hashem to be written in the Book Of Life!

May we all be blessed with a year full of good health, happiness, parnassa beshefa, nachas from our children, and a year of truly getting closer to Hashem! And who knows, maybe next year I'll have the zechus to be the Chazzan for CAS here in Jerusalem.
