Shabbat Shalom

I hope you and your families are well and enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

The parsha of Toldot, generations, embodies one of the core ideas of Jewish continuity.

Avraham was the founder of the Jewish people. He was the trailblazer. Yet, the vision of ethical monotheism would die without Yitzchak. Avraham was on fire, but without someone to carry the flame, the light would go out. The prime character trait of Yitzchak is gevura implying inner strength and perseverance. He redigs the wells of his father and serves as a bridge to a new generation of the Jewish people. The name of our Parsha, Toldot - generations, speaks to this sacred mission of Yitzchak and Rivka.

This is our mission as well. We were not the first Jews, the first ones to model a Torah centered life and reveal Godliness in the world. However, we are given the task to become the bridge to a future generation of Jews. What are we doing today to insure the future of our faith?

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our campaign for Schoke JFS. Even more importantly, every week we have an opportunity to shop for the food pantry. Whether for Thanksgiving or Shabbos, we can all pick up some items for the food pantry and drop them off at Agudath Sholom. Imagine what an impact it would make if every week, on our shopping list, each one of us consistently added just one item from this list. There is a collection box in the entrance of the shul for your convenience.

Thank you to Mitchell Bell and a host of volunteers for providing a Thanksgiving meal to Stamford EMS. As we approach Chanukah, let's find new ways every day to light up our community! You may receive updates for timely mitzvah moments by joining our growing WhatsApp group.

As a shul, we are called upon to emulate the spiritual legacies of Avraham and Sara as well. They were known for the warmth of their home. In this spirit, I encourage you to join our Rookies and Vets Shabbat on December 10th. Whether new to the community or you have been here many years, it is a great way to foster new connections and friendships. Sign up here.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen
