Haftorah  this week is read from Micah 5:6-6:8.

The Three Weeks This Thursday, July 9th, the 17th of Tamuz, is a fast day and signifies the beginning of the Three week period of mourning for the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem, culminating with the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, the 9th of Av, Thursday, July 30th.

As odd as it may seem for us to mourn a tragedy from over thousands of years ago, our ability to still mourn the loss and our obligation to do so, speaks to our recognition that the world is not as it should be and our responsibility to build a world worthy of the Messiah and the rebuilding of the Beit Hamikdash. The period is highlighted by such restrictions as no live music, celebratory gatherings, no haircuts and no weddings. To learn more visit www.aish.com or www.ou.org. God willing, we will all merit a time of joy and redemption speedily in our days.

Making Mitzvah Moments Update:
Thank you to everyone for expressing your support to Annie Vuono and her family at Marcos Jeweler. It makes a real difference! See her letter below.
Dear Rabbi Cohen and the Congregation:
Words cannot express your thoughtfulness of not only of YOU for taking the time to speak with my son David but to my surprise seeing you in the store and myself open my heart and tell you of the grief / sadness I am going through. To my surprise, your wife Diane came down as well. It was so comforting to speak to, as if I had known her forever. It was a great day for me where I found peace in my heart to go on despite not having my husband with me. The kindness of the Jewish community has given me faith in humanity when I really needed it the most. On behalf of my sons Andrew and David, thank you for taking the time and the many blessings I have received toward us.
Annie
