We hope you and your families are well.

This Shabbat, we begin the series of Shabbatot marking the countdown to Shavuot. We will begin studying Pirkei Avot each Shabbat between mincha and maariv. This Shabbat, we study Chapter 1. Feel free to learn on your own at home as well and choose one mishna at each Shabbat meal. Here are some resources: click here, click here, click here and click here.

As the weather changes and God willing, we experience more healing in our community, we look forward to offering more ways to engage our community over Shabbat and beyond. This Shabbat, we will offer four Shabbat morning minyanim at 7 and 9 AM indoors and outdoors and Teen Minyan at 10:45 AM. Youth Groups will be as follows: Mini Minyan at 11 AM in the Simcha Room and Junior Congregation at 11 AM in the lobby.

Join us next Friday night, April 17th at 7 PM for a Ruach Filled Kabbalat Shabbat in the Tent in honor of Yom Haatzmaut in lieu of indoors services.

We are looking forward to restarting the 8 AM minyan, God willing, next week as well as the pre Shabbat mincha class on the Code of Jewish Law. A light COVID safe kiddush will be served following all minyanim. Look for more details next week.

Join us this Sunday at 10:00 AM for a virtual presentation with Dr. David Bernstein, Dean of Pardes and leader of the CAS Poland Journey in commemoration of Yom Hashoah. His topic will be "The Complexity of the Poland and Jewish Relationship.

This coming week, we commemorate Yom Hazikaron and celebrate Yom Haatzmaut. Join us for two presentations in honor of Israel on Tuesday with Dr. Yael Ziegler at 12 PM and Rachel Besser on Wednesday evening at 8 PM.

Wednesday morning we will recite a memorial prayer in shul on behalf of Israeli soldiers and victims of terror and Hallel on Thursday morning in honor of Yom Haatzmaut. The shul will also provide special blue and white cookies "to go" from Beldottis on Wednesday eve and Thursday morning at minyanium as well as at Shabbat groups April 17th. May we share good news the days ahead. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Making Mitzvah Moment Opportunity from Rabbi Cohen
This week, I was in Marcos Jewelers to say hi to Annie, whose husband was murdered almost a year ago last Sunday. She again thanked me and the Jewish community for their support over the year and particularly when the store reopened last June. Our MMM group has been a true light in challenging times. Let's do it again and create a 72 hour Flash Mob of Kindness. Call her, visit the store, offer words of strength and comfort and/or make a purchase. I know it will mean the world! Her phone number is 203-357-0892. Here is store info. http://marcojewelers.net/
One light can illuminate a room of darkness. May we share good news in the days ahead!

Dear Rabbi Cohen and the Congregation:

Words cannot express your thoughtfulness of not only of YOU for taking the time to speak with my son David but to my surprise seeing you in the store and myself open my heart and tell you of the grief / sadness I am going through. To my surprise, your wife Diane came down as well. It was so comforting to speak to, as if I had known her forever. It was a great day for me where I found peace in my heart to go on despite not having my husband with me. The kindness of the Jewish community has given me faith in humanity when I really needed it the most.

On behalf of my sons Andrew and David, thank you for taking the time and the many blessings I have received toward us.

Annie -

CAS Israel Advocacy Update
Israel News
Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut kick off a month of Israel at CAS! We're planning a variety of Israel-programming to give everyone the opportunity to get informed and get involved.

May 19th and May 26th 8:00 PM Stand With Us -- We are hosting virtual events with StandWithUs, aimed at preparing our pro-Israel student leaders for life on college campuses. We will discuss the transition to campus, new campus trends related to pro-Israel and anti-Israel activities, and key concepts and misconceptions about Israel, Zionism, and Judaism as well as how to convey these concepts to those less informed. The first session, on May 19th, is targeted at high-school and college students; the second session on May 26th will be targeted towards parents and the broader community. We are still looking for more student leaders to help make this a success. Please contact Rabbi Cohen or Ben Lanson (ben.lanson@gmail.com) if you are interested.

Virtual ACHI/Ben Yehuda Market  Even though you can't visit Israel, you can still shop and support the businesses there who are suffering from the lack of tourism. Browse through 55 Israeli merchants from many different categories. Achi613.org

Take a Minute to Support Israel  Supporting Israel isn't hard -- there are many things that you can do that take literally one minute. The Israel Committee now has a website built on this idea. Go to www.IsraelMinute.com for simple things that you can do, from calling your Congressional representatives to social media posts, that take only a minute or two. Check back frequently for updates and ideas for things you can do!

LIPS product of the week  Check out our new Love Israel Products Blog (LIPS) for the latest ways to support Israel! Thank you to Lola Halperin and Aaron Goldenberg for organizing. www.loveisraelproducts.com

  • THREE-PART SERIES ON THE CONVERSO AND LATINO CONNECTION TO ISRAEL Begins on Sunday, April 25th at 1:00 PM. The perfect programming for older religious school students and adults alike, this compelling story of the Sephardic experience begins hundreds of years ago with the Jews of the Iberian Peninsula. This was a profound period of persecution, pogroms, and forced conversions (conversos). However, it was also a time of hope and survival with many of the converso community seeking to hold on to their Jewish traditions in secret, thus creating the Crypto-Jewish phenomenon wherein many descendants of the conversos are making their way back to their Jewish roots, and some are returning to the land of Israel after more than 500 years in hiding. The registration link is: https://www.jnf.org/converso
