Shabbat Nachamu

This Shabbat takes its name from the Haftorah from Isaiah that speaks of God comforting the Jewish people. It is the first of seven haftarot of consolation leading up to the holiday of Rosh Hashanah. The double expression nachamu nachamu means more than two. It is an expression of abundance in both quantity and quality. Not only is this consoling of greater intensity, but it is ongoing. Since this is the first of the seven prophecies of consolation, it is this one that sets the standard for all subsequent expressions of consoling in the weeks to come. We are in exile for a reason, to do something we can only do here, but God willing, we will experience the ultimate consolation and redemption very soon.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Thank you to our Minyanaires and an Update
To our Minyanaires: We are deeply grateful to all of you, men and women, who have supported our minyanim as we have reopened. We appreciate your patience as we navigate new realities and adjust to changing protocols. Your partnership makes a difference not only to our sense of community but tefillot to Hashem. It is no wonder that the Baal Shem Tov writes we must accept the mitzvah of Vehavata Lereach Koamocha before we begin to daven.
To our Community: In this spirit, I am happy to share that due to, thank God, the improving health situation in our area, we will now welcome visitors to CAS who have not been in a CT deemed hotspot in the prior 14 days (click here for more information). Visitors will be required to sign up in advance to attend minyan at www.cas-stamford.org/minyan.
Beginning this Shabbat, we will provide Chumashim on Shabbat morning. We ask everyone to leave them on their chairs following services, so they can be collected and cleaned. As we have done so far in the crisis, we will continue to provide virtual opportunities for all. God hears all of our prayers from everywhere and we value everyone joining in our spiritual community.
God willing, together as a community all of our prayers will be answered for the good and this Shabbat will herald a time of full comfort and redemption for the Jewish people and the world.
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Halacha Corner  Tu B'Av - This Tuesday night and Wednesday is the holiday of Tu B'Av, the 15th of Ave. It is a day of celebration. Tu B'Av is the opposite of Tisha B'Av. In contrast to the baseless hatred that brought about the destruction of the Holy Temple and the Exile, the events commemorated on Tu B'Av revolve around love and unity among different sectors of the nation, and our deep connection to Israel and the Holy Temple. We do not recite Tachanun on Wednesday. To learn more, click here.
