Shabbat Shalom

This coming Tisha B'Av the feelings of anxiety are palpable. In past years, it seemed a struggle to emotionally engage in the mourning of the day. As much as we reflected on the tragedies of the past, we felt secure.

Yet, this year with Israelis running for shelter and Jews experiencing renewed anti-Semitism, our world is upended. We cannot feel comfortable. In reality, in the days before the redemption, we experience the birth pangs of the Messiah.

During this period, we must do whatever is in our power in hasten his coming. Moving to Israel should not be a dream but a reality. If we cannot move at this time, we should not discount it forever but think of Israel as a real possibility for our families in the future. Click here to visit Nefesh BeNefesh to learn more.

If we remain in the Diaspora, it can never be with full sense of security, but in knowing that as Americans we are called upon every day to do what is in our hands for Israel and the Jewish people.

May we merit through the mourning of Tisha B'av to see the rebuilding of the Temple and peace for the land and people of Israel speedily in our days.

Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom and good news from Israel in the week ahead,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Welcome to Nachman and Jennifer Friedman and their son Natan, who are visiting CAS this Shabbat

We Are Mishpacha

SUPPORT THE IDF

As Operation Protective Edge continues, the IDF soldiers on the frontlines are exhibiting unparalleled bravery, risking their lives to protect the country that they - and we - love. And the number of soldiers just grew: earlier today, the IDF announced that they are calling up an additional 16,000 reservists.

These are the times where the brave men and women defending the Jewish homeland need us the most. And FIDF is the only official organization raising funds in the United States in coordination with the IDF for the wellbeing of Israel's soldiers.  Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, more than 2,800 rockets have been fired at Israel from Gaza.   And the only thing standing in between those rockets and innocent Israelis are our brave IDF soldiers.  56 IDF soldiers were killed so far!

The immediate needs are still snack packages for Shabbat (sponsor 10 soldiers-$180), Toiletry kits (sponsor 10 soldiers-$360) and undergarment bags (sponsor 10 soldiers-$500).Every dollar counts.  Every household counts.  The soldiers need to know that WE CARE!!!  Another thing that people should know is that 100% of their donations go to the soldiers!!! 100%.

Support the soldiers - donate at www.FIDF.org

CAS HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICES & SEATING

This year we are announcing several changes in the High Holiday Service and Seating Policy. Please read this carefully, as your action is required:
  • In addition to our Sanctuary and Heyman Chapel Services, we will hold Shacharit and Musaf services in the Library on Rosh Hashanah (starting each day at 6 am) and Yom Kippur (starting at 9 am).
  • Reserved seating will be available in all three services. To reserve a seat, members must be in good standing and either purchase a reserved seat for $300 or become a member of our Tzedakah program.
  • Members of our Tzedakah program are entitled to a seat for themselves, their spouse, and any children under age 25. If Tzedakah program members require seats for children over age 25 or visiting relatives, we are reverting to a former policy requiring payment for these seats. We have reduced the charge for these additional seats to $75 for each ticket for the first four tickets, $50 for each ticket for the fifth or more.
  • To comply with appropriate safety codes, we are limiting the Chapel Main floor seating to 214 and the Library seating to 75. These limits will be strictly enforced.
  • New seating charts for all three services, and the Balcony of the Heyman Chapel are available on-line.
  • To implement these changes, your action is required to confirm reserved seating for the High Holidays:
    • 2013 Tzedakah Program members (members in good standing and those who paid $550 or more for the Tzedakah Program):
      • You will receive a confirmation email showing your confirmed seats as outlined above. This will not include reserved seats for children over the age 25 or visiting relatives.
      • You have until August 1, 2014 to confirm or change your reserved seat location and purchase additional reserved seats. You can purchase 2014 additional reserved seats based on your 2013 reservation. To reserve a seat, payment is required.
      • If seating limits in any service are exceeded, we will offer alternative locations in other Services.
    • New paid 2014 Tzedakah Program members and others requesting reserved seats
      • We would like to accommodate your needs. Please contact the office to request a seat by location in any service and we will keep your name on a waiting list.

      • By August 30, we will notify you if we can confirm your seat. Payment is required on confirmation.
