Shabbat Shalom

One of the most heroic moments in Jewish history is the dedication of two women to saving the children from the murderous decree of Pharaoh. The Torah states that the midwives, Shifra and Puah, risked their own lives to save the children. They serve as models of heroism and principled living. Their awe and reverence for God buttressed their faith in the face of Pharaoh's threats. Their stance is reminiscent of the heroic words of a righteous Gentile who saved Jews during the Holocaust, Aristides de Sousa Mendes, who decided courageously, "I would rather stand with God against man than man against God." To learn more about him, click here.

In the spirit of Shifra and Puah, I am joining with Rabbis across the country and the RCA in raising awareness about an important organization, SHIFRA (formerly "In Shifra's Arms"). The organization is devoted to saving Jewish lives by empowering Jewish women through unplanned pregnancy crises and after birth. It is a unique Jewish support network for nurturing Jewish women through unplanned pregnancy crises and helping them thrive as mothers and women. For more information contact me or Erica Pearlman (erica@jewishpregnancyhelp.org) or visit https://jewishpregnancyhelp.org.

We are looking forward to a wonderful Shabbos together and excited to welcome the teens to the main sanctuary to assist in leading the service and sharing words of Torah. We hope this will be a monthly event and supplement the teen minyanim.

Join me on Monday, January 22nd for a luncheon with Rabbi David Stav, founder of Tzohar, who will address the topic of Secular and Religious, Israel 2023: Is Concern Warranted? Sign up in the Events section below.

Finally, please consider joining one of our Jewish journeys this spring and summer to Morocco and Israel. We will be hosting an informational zoom session for the Israel Family experience on Monday evening at 8:30 PM using this Zoom link.

Meeting ID: 878 3423 3296 and Passcode: 582653.

Wishing your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen
