Shabbat Shalom
We hope you and your families are well!

We invite you to consider joining at our indoor or outdoor minyanim on Shabbat morning. To sign up, click here. As a reminder, we have resumed individual aliyot during Torah reading. If you are not able to make it to shul and and have an upcoming Yahrzeit and would like Kaddish recited and a Kel Maleh in memory of a loved one, please email Rabbi Cohen or Rabbi Kurtz.

If you missed the very meaningful and informative session with Rabbi David Stav, click here to view a recording with passcode: m$.@!Z6T.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our Yom Kippur Appeal thus far and we encourage 100% participation. Whether a lot or a little, the donation from your heart is an eternal investment in our shul and makes a difference! Stay tuned in the weeks ahead to learn about another vital investment in our future - "Life and Legacy", a community venture spearheaded by our local United Jewish Federation. To learn more, visit jewishlifelegacy.org or speak to Elissa Klapper (elissak@optonline.net) or myself. Thank you for your partnership.

Finally, remember to vote. It is our halachic and moral obligation, as well as a true expression of our gratitude for living in America. It is incumbent to participate in the democratic system which safeguards our freedoms. May the coming week be one in which we all rise to embody the fact that we are one nation under God.

Wishing you and your family a Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

To make this as safe as possible, we have installed a plexiglass divider between the Torah reader and the individual who is called up to the Torah. Those who wish to receive an aliyah must adhere to the following guidelines, click here.

JFS Program in memory of Mark Rothberg - One Call One Life
A Message from David Rothberg

My twin brother passed away this summer. He was 54 years old and had suffered from severe depression and anxiety for over 30 years. During those years, he was treated at a variety of institutions by an endless number of professionals. Ultimately he succumbed to the ravages of this debilitating mental illness. Covid-19 only exacerbated the situation since the usual family visits were curtailed and his loneliness grew.

I want to and need to do something in his memory.

How many of us pass some person lying on the sidewalk, pushing a grocery cart filled with things, holding up a sign asking for help. How many of us just pass by because we are uncomfortable. But perhaps we need to take a closer look and think this person is someone's daughter or son, father or mother; another human being unable to conquer his mental illness.

Certainly many of us know of someone in our own families, congregation or community who needs to be touched. And it is our responsibility as Jews to reach out and make a difference.

Schoke Jewish Family Service of Fairfield County has agreed to include this program in its many social service programs. Simply described- volunteers will call an individual once a week on a scheduled basis for 15 to 30 minutes and just be a friend.

I am asking for names of family and friends who would benefit from such an outreach. Of course volunteers would be a nice addition, but primarily I am hoping for names of people suffering from mental illness who would benefit from a simple phone call. I personally make my calls while I am stuck in traffic on I-95. My telephone friend really looks forward to my call.

None of the volunteers are professional but all will have some training by professionals at JFS. I am happy to provide more details. I can be contacted at drothberg26@gmail.com and 914-393-7343. This is my way to make my brothers memory a blessing.

The Night Of Broken Glass: History And Memory
Thursday, November 5 - 8:00 PM
Congregation Agudath Sholom is proud to co-sponsor an important Kristallnacht program that is being organized by the Center for Community Education at the Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy of Connecticut.

Featuring Dr. Shay Pilnik, founding director of the Emil A. and Jenny Fish Holocaust and Genocide Studies Center at Yeshiva University

Kristallnacht, or The Night of Broken Glass, is the state-sponsored and statewide pogrom that took place on the night of November 9-10, 1938, targeting thousands of Jewish stores fronts, homes and synagogues. Unleashing a violent and unprecedented attack against Jews throughout the Third Reich, Kristallnacht came down in history as a watershed event, viewed by many as the prelude to or the beginning of the Holocaust.
