Shabbat Shalom
We hope you and your families are well.

Thank you again to everyone who supported our annual dinner which was a huge success!

We are thrilled that Agudath Sholom has exceeded the number of letters of intent for the first year of the Life and Legacy program! Thank you to everyone who made commitments. To learn more about how to create lasting impact for Agudath Sholom, contact Elissa Klapper (elissak@optonline.net) or Rabbi Cohen.

We are deeply grateful to the over 500 people who attended the rally on Monday evening. Thank you to the organizers, Diane Sloyer, Sharon Lewis and Pam Ehrenkranz of the United Jewish Federation of Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, the JCRC and UJA JCC Greenwich respectively. Rabbi Cohen, Congressman Himes and Senator Blumenthal's remarks are below.

Join us on Shabbat morning for minyanim at 7, 8 and 9 indoors and outdoors. Youth groups begin at 10 AM. A light COVID friendly kiddush with pastries from Beldottis and various salads and proteins from Soosh will be served following all minyanim outdoors behind the chapel. Contact Kim (kmahoney@cas-stamford.org) to sponsor a kiddush.

We continue to offer our prayers for the state and people of Israel. It is crucial for us to mobilize our voices in support of Israel and the bonds between America and Israel. For more resources for advocacy, visit Stand with Us, https://www.standwithus.com/ AIPAC https://www.aipac.org/ and ADL https://www.adl.org/.

This Memorial Day weekend, we express our eternal gratitude to the fallen heroes, the men and women who served and dedicated their lives to the United States of America. May their memories be for a blessing always. "Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it." -- Unknown

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and good news locally and in Israel in the days ahead,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

We Need Volunteers for CSS (Community Security Service)!
Please sign up to join us at CSS. Our current group of 12 dedicated volunteers can no longer do this without others. We have been called upon to do shifts 3 out of four weekends and some of us are burning out.

The need for CSS is greater than ever. But if YOU don't step in to volunteer, we will not be able to continue.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

We will be offering training online and in Stamford in early June.

Please reach out to Simeon Wohlberg, the office, or Adam Breiner (adambr@thecss.org) ifyou are interested in signing up for training.

Updated COVID Guidelines starting May 20th, 2021
All guidelines in accordance with new State of CT regulations effective May 19, 2021.
  • Indoors - Masks required for non vaccinated individuals. Masks optional for those who are vaccinated. Seats will remain with six feet social distancing.
  • Outdoors - Masks will not be required outdoors for anyone and social distance seating will be diminished to 3 ft.
  • Torah Reading - The plexiglass separating the Torah readers from the person receiving the aliyah will be removed. Following your aliyah, please do not stand on the other side of the shulchan but return to your seat.
  • Kiddush - Since kiddush is outdoors, masks are no longer required. We will still provide a COVID-safe kiddush for the benefit of all our members. Seating will be available, weather permitting.
  • Contact Tracing and Sign Up - We will no longer maintain sign ups for weekday and Shabbat. However due to security measures, all people entering the parking lot by vehicle on Shabbat morning will be asked for their name and checked off on the pre registered list. Sign up via email with Kim at kmahoney@cas-stamford.org

Youth Guidelines:
All adults attending groups must continue to wear a mask inside CAS. This is to model the behavior that we expect from the children who are required to wear a mask under CAS policy. As a reminder, children aged 2 are encouraged to wear a mask and all children under 12 and any children over 12 who are not yet fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask.

More good news! We have made it even easier to come and daven on Shabbat. Children are now permitted to accompany their parents to minyan provided that they are able to sit with you during davening. Try coming to a 9am Shabbat minyan with your child(ren) and then drop them off at groups at 10am while you come back and enjoy the rest of your davening experience.

If you have not signed up for groups yet this week, there is still time!

United Against Hate
This weekend, on Shabbat, there is a Unite Against Hate Rally sponsored by the YMCA from 11 AM to 2 PM at Latham Park. It is outside the eruv but is within walking distance.

Rabbi Cohen's Remarks at the Rally - click here

Statement from Congressman Jim Himes
"I'm very sorry that my absence from CT makes it impossible for me to join all of you today, because it is essential that we stand as one to unequivocally, unconditionally and forcefully condemn anti-semitism and the violence it engenders. Hateful violence is never acceptable in any community. In the case of anti-semitic violence, we have a special and specific duty to condemn and stop it because it has been at the core of some of the most horrendous episodes in human history. The State of Israel is the answer to those episodes, and the ultimate guarantor of the Jewish people's inalienable rights. The middle east is a complicated place in which much can be debated. The existence in peace and security of the State of Israel is not one of those things. Thank you for making your voices heard."

Statement from Senator Blumenthal
Senator Blumenthal reaffirmed and wanted us to know that he will vote against any effort in the Senate to diminish support for Israel whether humanitarian, military, strategic or otherwise. He is deeply committed to Israel as America's strong ally. He also wanted us to know that as a lead writer of the No Hate Bill which was signed last week in the White House, he will do whatever he can to fight anti semitism and all forms of racism.

Save the Date - Guest Chazzan Duvie Shapiro on Shabbat, June 4th and 5th  Duvie will lead Kabbalat Shabbat and daven Shacharit at the 9 am Chapel minyan and musaf at 9 AM outdoor minyan. Check him out at https://www.youtube.com/user/duvieshapiro. He will also be joining us on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

A Message from Duvie Shapiro - our Guest Chazzan for June and the High Holidays
Dear Congregants of Congregation Agudath Shalom.

Rabbi Cohen asked that I write a little bio on myself so you can get to know me a little better prior to joining you for Shabbos Parshas Shlach. Being that I will also be joining you for the Yomim Noraim as your Chazzan Be"Ezrat Hashem, I felt I would take this opportunity to personally introduce myself. I originally come from Monsey New York, and now currently live with my wife and 4 beautiful children in Ramat Eshkol, Jerusalem Israel. I've been singing since I was little child, joining the Miami Boys Choir when I was 9. I'm the nephew of Congregants Sandy and Lil Shapiro, so that should give you an idea of my Yichus when it comes to singing and Chazzanut. I come from an extremely musical family and alot of what I know and do today comes from my father and his brothers, Uncle Sandy being one of them. They have been singing in Shuls for congregations since they were children and myself and the rest of our generation are continuing on with that tradition. The one thing I could say that Shapiro's put the biggest emphasis on when it comes to Chazzanut, is connecting with the Congregation they are representing. We take it very seriously, and view it as our responsibility to uplift and inspire everyone involved with our voices and tunes. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be joining you for Parshas Shlach as well as humbled by the opportunity to be representing you for the Yomim Noraim. I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon!
Shabbat Shalom!
Duvie
