Shabbat Shalom
I will be away this Shabbat in West Orange, NJ as a guest speaker in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Congregation AABJ&D where I served as assistant rabbi in the early 1990s. Wherever we may be, though, our hearts and prayers are in Israel. In lieu of my message this Shabbat, please keep this refection from the Orthodox Union in mind. Wishing everyone a Shabbat Shalom and good news from Israel.
Rabbi Daniel Cohen
Take Action for Israel: Shabbat of Unity: Parshat Noach
Our tradition teaches us that the most effective weapon in the arsenal of the Jewish people is our unity. Even the wicked King Ahab, an idol worshipper, met with success in his wars to defend our people in the merit of Jewish unity.
We therefore join with the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and others who are concerned with the welfare and safety of the State of Israel and its inhabitants in declaring this coming Shabbat, October 16-17, Parshat Noach, a Shabbat of Unity.
We urge our hundreds of constituent synagogues to recite appropriate prayers during this weekend. We ask them as well to enhance their observance of Shabbat; to intensify their Torah study; to increase acts of compassion and charity; and to reach out to other Jews with gestures of good fellowship.
We commend and admire the citizens of Israel for their courage and determination not to surrender to terror. We assure them that we stand with them at this moment and for the duration of their struggle for peace and justice.
We turn to the Almighty in the knowledge that mankind alone cannot achieve the peace which He prescribes without Heavenly Help, seyata d'shmaya. With hope and with tears we utter the time honored prayer, "may He who makes peace in His celestial realm make peace upon us and upon all of Israel, Amen."
Martin Nachimson, President
Allen Fagin, Executive Vice President
Sanctuary Seating Changes To accommodate any members who have difficulty sitting in the pews or require an armrest, we have designated a men's and women's section of seats in the front of the Sanctuary. The men's section are the seats on the Strawberry Hill side and the women's are on the parking lot side.

Stamford starts the Tied to Israel Campaign. In solidarity with Israel express your support by tying blue and white ribbons on your mailbox, home, car or place of your choice.  Thanks Adina Cohen for the slogan and Norine Krasnogor for the idea. Share this post. Let's make it go viral. Wherever we are we are Tied to Israel. May we share good news from Israel. Am Yisrael Chai. Simple instructions: Cut the ribbons to a minimum length of one yard (each). Cut it longer to wrap around a tree! A nice width of ribbon is 3/4", but feel free to get creative! To order ribbons at a discount for your synagogue, day school or organization, you can contact a company like May Arts Wholesale Ribbon Co. at www.mayarts.com. Please help this campaign go viral! Invite friends and family to participate!
