Shabbat Shalom
We hope you and your families are well and enjoying the holiday!

Please note that the last days of Pesach are a continuation of the holiday and we do not recite Shehecheyanu at Kiddush on Friday or Saturday night. Remember to light a Yahrzeit candle on Friday night in order to have pre existing flame for Yom Tov candles and also to light a Yahrzeit candle for Yizkor. Finally, Shabbat ends at 8:03 PM and all Yom Tov preparation should be done post this time following candle lighting.

We will be hosting a virtual Yizkor today at 5 PM (Zoom Meeting ID: 843 5347 9176, Passcode: 673984) with Sandy Shapiro and me in addition to the in-person Yizkor on Sunday at all minyanim. To view the Yizkor book, click here.

I will be sharing a brief Dvar Torah this evening prior to Maariv. Yosie Friedman will speak on Shabbat afternoon post Mincha on "The Inspiration of Redemption" and Rabbi Kurtz will speak on Sunday post mincha on "From Worship to Rap: What is Appropriate Religious Music?".

This Shabbat, we also read Shir Hashirim and are grateful to Barry Best, Nat Samberg and Rabbi Kurtz who will be reading at the minyanim. Tot Shabbat and Jr Congregation will both meet this Shabbat and Yom Tov at 11 AM.

Please remember to wait until 8:30 PM on Sunday night before removing your Chametz that was sold in your homes. Also, Soosh and Bevmax, Jewish owned businesses, as well as the Stamford JCC participated in the Chametz sale and all food sold or served there may be eaten post Pesach.

This week is Yom Hashoah. Join the United Jewish Federation for a virtual community program on Thursday evening, April 8th at 7:00 PM. For more info, contact Sharon Lewis, JCRC Director, at slewis@ujf.org.

Finally, I will be starting a 20 minute virtual Pirkei Avot class on Thursdays at 11:00 AM beginning this week as we launch a six week study in preparation for Shavuot.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Kasher VeSameach!

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Please note updated Minyan Guidelines as of March 19th:
  1. We welcome the Jewish community, local or visitors, to all our minyanim.
  2. Please note that the CDC recommends that ALL travelers (whether domestic or international), including those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, get tested 3-5 days after travel AND self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even with a negative test. If you do not get tested, the CDC recommends you self quarantine for a full ten days after travel.
  3. Regardless of whether you are vaccinated or not, you must still wear a mask and register.
  4. All attendees are required to wear masks covering the nose and mouth AT ALL TIMES.
  5. On Shabbat, someone will be at the main entrance to open the door and check you in until minyan begins.
  6. Children 12 and up are welcome to join at minyanim, provided they can remain seated throughout service. We welcome children under 12 on Friday night as well provided they also sit throughout the service and are signed up independent of his/her parents and on Shabbat and chag at outdoor minyanim.
  7. Before each minyan, please verify that you are healthy including not having a fever or a cough. If you have a slight fever or any type of cough, please stay home.

For security reasons, the main section of the parking lot is closed on Shabbat and Yom Tov when there are minyanim in the tent. Parking is available at the far end of the lot. However, if you are in need of closer parking due to medical consideration, security will give you access.

Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut kick off a month of Israel at CAS! We're planning a variety of Israel-programming to give everyone the opportunity to get informed and get involved.

April 29th 7PM AIPAC -- We will be hosting a speaker from AIPAC. The discussion will cover aspects of the current situation in the Middle East and the Israel-US relationship, as well as how AIPAC supports that relationship and the many ways to get involved with AIPAC.

Tuesday, April 13th at 12 PM -- Virtual Presentation with Dr. Yael Zeigler in partnership with Mizrachi

Dr. Yael Ziegler is an Assistant Professor in Tanakh at Herzog College and Matan. She received her BA from Stern College and an MA and Ph.D. at Bar Ilan University. Dr. Ziegler has lectured widely on various Tanakh topics in Israel, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and Europe. Dr. Ziegler is the author of Promises to Keep: The Oath in Biblical Narrative and Ruth: From Alienation to Monarchy, which has been translated into Hebrew. Her forthcoming book: Lamentations: Faith in a Turbulent World is scheduled for publication by Maggid Press in June, 2021. She is currently working on a book on Shemot.

May 19th and May 26th 8:00 PM Stand With Us -- We are hosting virtual events with StandWithUs, aimed at preparing our pro-Israel student leaders for life on college campuses. We will discuss the transition to campus, new campus trends related to pro-Israel and anti-Israel activities, and key concepts and misconceptions about Israel, Zionism, and Judaism as well as how to convey these concepts to those less informed. The first session, on May 19th, is targeted at high-school and college students; the second session on May 26th will be targeted towards parents and the broader community. We are still looking for more student leaders to help make this a success. Please contact Rabbi Cohen or Ben Lanson (ben.lanson@gmail.com) if you are interested.

Go to www.IsraelMinute.com for simple things that you can do, from calling your Congressional representatives to social media posts, that take only a minute or two. Check back frequently for updates and ideas for things you can do!
