We Are All Part of the Redemption
One idea has stayed with me throughout Sukkot: the sukkah is not only something we enter. It is something we are called to become. In reflecting on the life of Luba Weinroth with her family, I was struck by how often she created that kind of shelter for others—a listening ear, a generous spirit, a place where another person felt seen and supported. The Ananei HaKavod, the Clouds of Glory, remind us of God's protection in the wilderness. But perhaps they also ask something of us: Just as God creates shelter for us, whose shelter can I become? This week, another Sukkot moment deepened that idea. Diane and I had the extraordinary blessing of celebrating Shalhevet and Duniel here in Stamford following their wedding in Jerusalem. At the wedding, as we walked toward the bedeken, they intentionally slowed everything down. The music shifted, and standing there with my father beside us, I felt the generations converging—families that had journeyed from Europe to America, and now another generation beginning its Jewish home in Jerusalem. My father could not stop crying. Neither could I. It felt like a glimpse of redemption. We sometimes imagine geulah, redemption, as something enormous that will suddenly transform the world. But perhaps redemption is also built quietly: one Jewish home, one guest invited for Shabbat, one lonely person noticed, one family fed, one relationship repaired, one person given shelter. On their very first Shabbat as a married couple, Shalhevet and Duniel made sure there were guests around their table. A small act—but perhaps that is precisely the point. We never know which word will restore someone's hope, which invitation will ease someone's loneliness, or which act of kindness will change a life. So the question I have been asking throughout these holidays remains: What is my one act? Whose shelter can I become? Where can I add light? This Sukkot, we are launching ROK—Random Opportunities for Kindness at Agudath Sholom, founded by my friend Peter Samuelson, to help turn that question into action. The idea is simple: Don't merely admire kindness. Practice it. Notice it. Multiply it. Reach out. Invite someone. Help a neighbor. Feed a family. Make someone feel seen. Learn more and join the movement at https://www.rokindness.org/welcome?ref=rabbidanielcohen We don't have to wait for redemption. We are part of it. As we approach Simchat Torah and prepare to begin the Torah again, may we not simply dance with the Torah we hold in our arms. May we live it—with our homes, our tables, our words, and the shelter we create for one another. Become a shelter. Choose one act. Add one light. That is how redemption begins. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach! Rabbi Daniel Cohen |

Honoring Our CSS Volunteers
This Simchat Torah, we are privileged to recognize several members of our community for their dedicated service to CSS and the security of our shul. While particular individuals will receive honors, they do so as representatives of the many volunteers who quietly give of their time to help protect and care for our community.
We are deeply grateful to every one of them. When you see our CSS volunteers standing watch, please take a moment to acknowledge them, say Shabbat Shalom, and thank them. And perhaps consider joining them. Security is not only about protecting a community; it is one of the ways we build one—by showing up for one another, looking out for one another, and taking responsibility for one another.
May we continue to strengthen our bonds of friendship and responsibility, uplift one another, and, with God’s help, go from strength to strength.

Important Message from Rabbi Daniel Cohen
The Eighth Front: An American Jewish Future Initiative
Uniting people, ideas, and resources to build the alliances and action this moment demands.
David Harris challenged our community to recognize that this is not a moment to stand on the sidelines. His message strengthened my resolve to engage more deeply with the challenges facing the Jewish people, Israel, and America and to help turn concern into action.
God willing, I will convene a group in October to explore what we can do together. If you can contribute ideas, expertise, relationships, partnerships, or resources, please contact me at rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org.
The moment is urgent. The responsibility is ours. It is time to step forward.
