We hope everyone experienced a meaningful Yom Kippur. God willing, all of our prayers will be answered for the good in the coming year. Thank you so much to all of the Chazanim, Baalei Keryiah and all of the volunteers for enhancing the high holidays. The days between Yom Kippur and Sukkot are some of the holiest of the year. The Vilna Gaon explains that God removed the clouds of glory from protecting the Jewish people following the sin of the golden calf. He restored them after He forgave them on Yom Kippur. For this reason, we celebrate Sukkot during this season for the Sukkah is reminiscent of the clouds of glory and God's protection. The four days reflect God's love and our gift back to God is how we respond. Take a few minutes this Shabbat to insure actualization of your spiritual pledges during the holidays. God willing, we will feel Hashem in our lives, but only to the extent that we open up the door and let Him in. Thank you in advance for supporting our Kol Nidrei Appeal. We will be parsing two Old Testament inspired poems by Russian poetess Anna Akhmatova (1889-1966) Lot's Wife and Rachel's Grave. This year's commemoration features Micha Bitton, a pioneer in the ethnic-rock genre of Israeli music. - The Big Give Sunday, October 19th at 9:30 am. The Big Give is a vital opportunity to support programs that strengthen and unite the community As One. Federation is pivotal in safeguarding the community, including enhancing security measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every Jewish institution in the area. Children are encouraged to collect Tzedakah and complete Mitzvah Bingo Cards, which will be distributed at local Jewish schools and are also available at the UJF office. - Kuriansky Teen Leadership Institute Begins Sunday, October 26. Calling All Teens - This leadership program is for teens entering 10th–12th grades and focuses on the Jewish values of Tzedakah (philanthropy), Tikun Olam (social justice), and Gemilut Chasadim (acts of kindness). Earn community service hours! Looks great on college resumes! Meet new friends, and get ready to be a Jewish leader! Starting this fall, participants will meet monthly on Sundays from 5:30–7 PM (October through May).
