Shabbat Shalom

I hope you and your families are enjoying a wonderful Pesach.

As we approach the end of the holiday, take a moment to reflect on one inspiring seder insight to carry forward beyond Pesach. God willing, we forged meaningful memories as well. More than any other holiday, the counting of the omer - which bridges Pesach and Shavuot - affirms our aspiration to harness the days ahead for personal growth and a deeper commitment to making God and Torah the center of our lives. In this spirit, sign up for my Living the Torah Moment or Rabbi Kurtz's Daily Halacha for daily Torah inspiration and learning. Join My Omer to make the days count.

We are grateful to everyone who signed up for Life and Legacy. Our Year 2 commitment ends May 31st. To learn more, contact Dan Faizakoff or Rabbi Cohen. This is an easy way to invest in the future of Agudath Sholom!

Yasher Koach to Howard & Gayle Rothman, Rich & Pamela Vogel and all of the Agudath Sholom donors for sponsoring the planes for Ukrainian Jewish refugees making aliyah in partnership with our UJF and the Jewish Agency. Howard recently returned from Poland and Israel and will share his reflections on Shabbat morning in the main sanctuary prior to Yizkor.

This week is Yom Hashoah. Join us on Tuesday at noon for "The World That Was: A Virtual Tour of Jewish Krakow" with Dr. David Bernstein. Join the United Jewish Federation for an in person and virtual community program on Wednesday evening, April 27th at 7:00 PM. For more info, contact Sharon Lewis, JCRC Director, at slewis@ujf.org.

Please note that mincha will be at 7 PM on Friday night. Minyanim on Friday morning are 8 AM and 8:45 AM and on Shabbat morning at 7, 7:45 and 8:45 AM. We read Shir Hashirim on Shabbat morning as well as recite Yizkor. We will also host seudah shlishit in shul on Shabbat following mincha.

Finally, we look forward to God willing, a joyous celebration of Elisheva's marriage in Israel to Yaakov Moshe Shmidman on May 1st. We hope you will join us virtually and in Stamford for Shabbat Sheva Brachot on May 7th.

Wishing and your families a Chag Sameach and Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

  • Please note that the last days of Pesach are a continuation of the holiday and we do not recite Shehecheyanu at Kiddush on Thursday night or Friday night.
  • Remember to light a Yahrzeit candle on Thursday before lighting Yom Tov candles in order to have a pre-existing flame from which to light Friday night candles and also a Yahrzeit candle. We also make an Eruv Tavshilin on Thursday before Yom Tov. This allows us to prepare on Yom Tov for Shabbat. https://www.ou.org/life/torah/eruv-tavshilin-primer/
  • Please remember to wait until 8:50 PM on Saturday night before removing your Chametz that was sold in your homes. Also, Bevmax, a Jewish owned business, as well as the Stamford JCC participated in the Chametz sale and all food sold or served there may be eaten post Pesach.

Agudath Sholom and the Life & Legacy Initiative

Agudath Sholom is proud to be one of more than 680 Jewish organizations across North America that have secured over 1 billion dollars in legacy commitments to ensure a bright Jewish future.

To date, our collaboration with 10 other Stamford organizations, United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation's LIFE & LEGACY initiative, has led 97 donors just like you to commit gifts of over 4 million dollars to local organizational endowments.

Without writing a check today, you too can do your part to help the Agudath Sholom build our endowment and help build the endowments of the other Jewish organizations in our community you value, so we can weather turbulent times like these and adapt to meet evolving community needs.

This is a very simple process, and when Agudath Sholom reaches our first goal of 18 -25 Letters of Intent, we will receive a financial incentive grant that can be used immediately for any synagogue need.

Join our members who have already signed letters of intent. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment to Agudath Sholom!
