Special Message for Jerusalem 50 and about Yom Hashoah from Rabbi Cohen
The Afikim Foundation has undertaken a creative endeavor unlike any we have seen in the past. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Yerushalayim, they are asking communities around the world to join in writing a Sefer Torah to celebrate the occasion. While in most cases people are asked to contribute money in order to be part of the writing of a Sefer Torah, we have the opportunity to dedicate letters in this Torah based upon the acts of chesed performed by our members.
CAS has reserved the Torah portion of Nitzavim to be dedicated by our shul through individual acts of chesed.
Signing up for a letter in this sefer Torah is easy. Just perform any act of chesed, then go online and click on the first two sets of letters - Nitzavim 29.12-29.14 and Nitzavim 29.15-29.28 to find the block of letters reserved for CAS, and just follow the prompts. Once an act of chesed has been registered and marked as complete, you will also have the option to print a certificate with your name, your chesed, and your letter in the Torah.
Please make every effort to attend the community Yom Hashoah program this Sunday at 4:30 PM at Beth El. Although we are not all children of survivors, we are all obligated to remember the Shoah. The ugly head of antisemitism still rears its head and we cannot rest until we experience a time of tolerance, peace and harmony. We must remember the tragedy of the Holocaust so future generations do not forget.
Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom
Rabbi Daniel Cohen
Siyum haShas on Yom HaZikaron There is a new special international learning project, LeKedoshim.com, to jointly complete the Talmud within 24 hours on Yom HaZikaron in memory of Israel's fallen soldiers and victims of terror. Individuals can sign up for a whole tractate or a block of pages or even individual daf (and learning can be done on any level, from reading through artscroll to listening to a shiur to iyun). Each participant will receive a name of a fallen soldier or terror victim to learn that daf in their memory on Yom HaZikaron. The learning begins on April 30, 2017 at 8 PM Israel time (1 PM EST) and finishes on May 1, 2017 at 4 PM Israel time (9 am EST). For those outside of Israel, this is a wonderful way to connect with Israel and remember those who have given their lives for our homeland. For more information go to lekedoshim.com or email info@lekedoshim.com.
