| | What is your legacy and how will you be remembered? This week's Torah potion of Chukat describes the passing of two great Jewish leaders, Miriam and Aaron. Whose lives still inspire us today. Miriam's faith and Aaron's love of the Jewish people represent the ideal models of these two indispensable values for our people. When her father gave up hope for the future redemption, Miriam believed in a brighter day. She rallied her family and the nation. Aaron's legendary outreach to all Jews regardless of status or background and his pursuit of peace serve as guiding light for our generation. In this spirit, this week, we commemorate The 20th yahrtzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, on the 3rd of Tamuz. Join us at Seudah Shlishit this week for a special event: The Impact of the Rebbe. We will explore his enduring influence on world Jewry. Come hear panel presentations from Rabbi Cohen, Rabbi Yisrael Deren and Yuval Sinai.

Kraft Foods will soon be producing Philadelphia Bacon Cream Cheese Spread which will be non-kosher. As a result, many of the Philadelphia brand cream cheese products will no longer be "OK"-certified. Some cream cheese spreads will remain kosher. Don't buy Philadelphia cream cheese products without looking for the "OK-D" on every package.
The Orthodox Union certifies Kellogg's Special K White Fudge Dipped Pretzels (Kellogg's Snacks, Battle Creek MI) as an "OU-D" product. This product contains dairy ingredients as indicated on the ingredient and allergen statements. Some packaging mistakenly bear a plain "OU" without the "D" designation. Corrective actions have been implemented. |

| HOST ISRAELI VIPs FRIDAY AUGUST 15 THROUGH SUNDAY AUGUST 17 Here is your chance -- and for some of you, your second and third chance -- to show Israel some love this summer by hosting some very special 12- and 13-year-old Israeli youngsters who will be visiting Stamford this August for what we expect will be a golden Shabbat. A delegation of 36 children, each of whom has lost a parent in military, police or firefighting units in Israel, will be spending the summer in the United States under the auspices of the Widows and Orphans of the IDF. This hard-working Israeli charity cares for 5,000 families who have each paid the ultimate price to maintain the State of Israel and keep it safe. Each year, this charity organizes a trip to the U.S. that features some much-needed recreational time at a Jewish camp in Wisconsin for the children in these families who are coming of age. The children then trek the long way back to Israel, visiting host communities and seeing sights along the way. Each year's trip is capped off by a communal bar and bat mitzvah in the fall attended by many dignitaries in the Old City. It is a bittersweet event meant to remind these children that neither they nor their loved ones will be forgotten. This summer, for the first time, the sponsoring organization has made Stamford the culmination of the children's U.S. trip in large part because of the extraordinary hospitality and outpouring of love our community has shown two prior delegations. Can we count on you again to help this year's young travelers have a Shabbat to remember? These 19 girls and 17 boys and their dozen chaperones, led by the incomparable Shlomi Nahumson, will need housing in our community from Friday afternoon August 15 through Sunday morning August 17, when they will leave for Israel. Details, including precise arrival and departure times, will be shared as they become available. Though the children's time with us is limited, we know you will make the most of every minute they are in our midst, and you can count on a backyarddessert and swim party at the Bodurtha home after Shabbat on Saturday for all host families and their charges to make things easier. Eddie at Main Event has, once again, generously promised to cater the party and will, no doubt, outdo himself. Families who stepped up in 2012 and 2013 really had a remarkable experience. Because these VIP's are first-time travelers, the charity asks volunteering families to accept groups of 4 or more and to be flexible about last-minute changes made for the comfort of the children. (Judith Jelen has forever earned her place in heaven, as far as we're concerned, simply on the strength of the enormous poise she displayed two years ago in the face of such late "tweaks" to the roster, announced just prior to Shabbat and Tisha B'Av.) We would also be especially grateful to hear from volunteers who speak Arabic, since two of the girls in this year's delegation are Druze and one boy is Bedouin. They can get by in Hebrew, but would obviously feel far more at home among us if they were able to converse in a language more comfortable to them. - SAVE THE DATE: SPECIAL LECTURE WITH AUTHOR ALLAN CHERNOFF SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 7, 9:30 AM @ CAS A veteran of national network TV news reporting, Allan Chernoff served as CNN's senior correspondent and has reported for CNBC and NBC News programs. He is the recipient of six best reporting awards from the Society of Professional Journalists New York Chapter and was a reporter on teams winning Peabody and DuPont Awards. Chernoff co-wrote The Tailors of Tomaszow with his mother, Rena Margulies Chernoff, a native of the town and a Holocaust survivor. Among the first-hand accounts included in the book is that of Eva Tenenbaum Romanowitz, a first cousin of Rena Margulies Chernoff and mother of longtime Stamford resident Dr. Harry "Hesh" Romanowitz z"l, a renowned pediatrician and mohel who was active in the Jewish community and worked to keep Yiddish language and culture alive.
