The Shabbat meal is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our families, community and  connection to  G-d.  The Around the Shabbat Table Campaign encourages each family to include three elements at their meal:  

1. Share a Torah Insight   2. Sing a Jewish Song    3. Refrain from Gossip-Celebrate Positive Speech
 
Suggested Torah topic for your Shabbat table: Why do you think that the Talmud states that the primary obstacle to wisdom is arrogance?  What other obstacles would you note?

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE CAS CHANUKAH CONCERT

 

Come one, come all to our Agudat Shir Choir's Chanukah Concert Thursday evening, December 17th at 7:30 p.m. the 7th night of Chanukah at Congregation Agudath Sholom.

 

There will be a candle lighting ceremony, light refreshments and our own Cantor Arik Wollheim as featured soloist, with no admission charge.  It is the choir's gift to the community.

 

David Gordon is our director, Edith Neidle our accompanist.

 

So join us as we present a traditional selection of Chanukah melodies in four part mixed voice harmony.

 

The evening is being sponsored by the Sisterhood and Men's Club with delicious goodies by Beldotti's.

¨ MENS CLUB MEETING- Sunday, December 6th at  9:15 a.m.  A logistical planning meeting for the Pacific House homeless shelter Dinner on December 25th.  Contributions of food or money as well as volunteers are needed. Contact Sam Goldstein for more information at mensclubsam@gmail.com

¨ SPINAGOGUE, THE YEAR OF THE DREIDEL, Sunday, December 6, 4:00 p.m. - This event is all about the dreidel as we fully exploit every angle of dreidel playing.  We will attempt to break the world record for number of dreidels spinning at one time (currently 713) and the longest dreidel spin (17.8 seconds).  There will be dreidel-making stations, dreidel-shaped cookie decorating stations, dreidel card stations to send to Israeli soldiers, dreidel photo-op booth, dreidel hat making, exotic dreidels for purchase, and a dreidel guessing station.  Of course we have planned a super special surprise.  So come "spin baby spin" and celebrate Chanukah with us @ CAS.  We will be serving latkes, donuts, chocolates and all of your favorite Chanukah foods! $5 per person, $25 max for immediate family.  Not too late to come!!  Come one and all!!

¨ ALAN VEINGRAD-Saturday, December 5th & 6th  The first CAS Youth Scholar in residence.  The Former Dallas Cowboy will be sharing his story throughout the weekend.  If you've signed up have a great time!

¨ 3 RABBIS, 3 PERSEPECTIVES, 1 TORAH-Tuesday, December 15th at CAS. At 7:00 p.m. Join Rabbi Cohen, Rabbi Mitch Hurvitz & Rabbi Andrew Sklar for the final session as they explore the common & diverse perspectives on the three pillars of Judaism-Torah, Prayer & Chesed.

¨ COME ONE COME ALL!! AGUDAT SHIR CHOIR CHANUKAH CONCERT, Thursday, December 17, 7:30 p.m. at CAS. On the 7th night of Chanukah the "fun" continues.  Cantor Wollheim will be back to sing.  There will be a candlelighting ceremony & a presentation of Chanukah songs.  There will be light refreshments and the cost is FREE.  All are invited-ask your friends & family to join you.

¨ RABBI ETHAN TUCKER, SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE-Friday, December 18 Rabbi Tucker is co-founder of Mechon Hadar & Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Hadar where he also serves as the Chair in Jewish Law.  He is the recipient of the Grinspoon Foundation Social Entrepreneur Fellowship.

¨ ISRAEL TOUR FULL-Although there will be two buses, reservation requests for the February 2010 tour to Israel led by Mr. S will be accepted only for and "if spaces available-in case there are any cancellations." It's not too early to think about the next tour.

¨ SUPER SUNDAY AT UJF - Sunday, December 6, 2009  It's that time of year again and UJF is preparing for Super Sunday!  They have assembled a great team consisting of Stephanie Bilenker, Stella Cohen, and Risa Raich who are serving as co-chairs of the event. They are looking for volunteers to make phone calls and other tasks on Super Sunday and they invite you to bring your children for special kids projects this year, including decorating and filling Hanukkah Mitzvah bags and the PJ Library Snuggle-Up Story Hour.
