Shabbat Shalom

We welcome our Scholar in Residence this Shabbat, Yisroel Ben-Porat, M.Phil, who will speak three times at 10:30 AM, 7:15 PM and during seudah shlishit.

We will be having two Friday night minyanim and minyanim at 7, 8 and 9 AM. Thank you in advance to Yonnie Rubinfeld, Elana Barer, Ben Folkinshteyn, and Rina Miller for chairing the carnival this Sunday.

This Shabbat we read Parshat Chukat. One of the most mysterious episodes in the Torah portion of Chukat is healing procured by the Jewish people gazing at a snake on a staff. This may be the source for Caduceus, the medical symbol. However, the Mishna clarifies that it is not the snake that cures but a person gazing above to God in prayer that arouses God's mercy for healing. While in Tzfat this week, I spotted a sticker which captures this idea and serves as a reminder of the power of prayer. It stated, "God gazes from Heaven on humanity to see whether humanity gazes towards him in prayer." As the Baal Shem Tov explains the words in Psalm 23, "God is my shadow", like a shadow, God's providence of us mirrors our relationship with Him.

We will be launching Kiddush Ambassadors in August which will be a group of children committed to serving seniors during kiddush, wishing adults Shabbat Shalom and much more and will receive special prizes for their participation. If your child would like to be a part of this special group, please email me at rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org.

We look forward to welcoming guests Rav Boaz Mori on July 30th and Mark Trencher on August 13th. There will be a summer series with Rabbi Kurtz on Torah and the Twilight Zone beginning this week on July 11 and a Mikvah educational event on July 18th "Girl Talk but Make it Torah". We will host Dr. David Bernstein virtually on Tisha B'Av. More info on all events at cas-stamford.org in the weeks ahead.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom from Jerusalem,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

In Memory of Judith Jelen - Sign Up to Learn in Her Memory  Please take a moment to sign up and share a Tanach learning opportunity in memory of Judith Jelen. May her memory be for a blessing always. Judith loved learning Tanach with her children and family. She often had pieces of Parsha trivia and other insights to share at the Shabbat table. We therefore find it fitting to make a Siyum Tanach for her Shloshim. Please feel free to sign up for one or more sections. We also encourage families to learn together in honor of Judith's deep love of family and teaching. Please note, there are multiple tabs, one each for Torah, Neviim, and Ketuvim. If you have technical difficulties or problems signing up, please WhatsApp or text Emily Jelen at 203-559-0940.

Agudath Sholom and the Life & Legacy Initiative

Agudath Sholom is proud to be one of more than 680 Jewish organizations across North America that have secured over 1 billion dollars in legacy commitments to ensure a bright Jewish future.

To date, our collaboration with 10 other Stamford organizations, United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan and Darien, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation's LIFE & LEGACY initiative, has led 97 donors just like you to commit gifts of over 4 million dollars to local organizational endowments.

Without writing a check today, you too can do your part to help Agudath Sholom build our endowment and help build the endowments of the other Jewish organizations in our community you value, so we can weather turbulent times like these and adapt to meet evolving community needs.

This is a very simple process, and when Agudath Sholom reaches our first goal of 18 -25 Letters of Intent, we will receive a financial incentive grant that can be used immediately for any synagogue need.

Join our members who have already signed letters of intent. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment to Agudath Sholom!
