Shabbat Shalom

In honor of Shabbat mevarchim, Kabbalat Shabbat this Friday night will be infused with added ruach and song.

We are grateful, thank God, that COVID cases are decreasing and as such the updated mask protocol from the Mayor. Please see details below regarding our current policy. We will be taking down our tent this coming week and God willing on Shabbat, Nov. 6th, we will offer one 9 AM minyan in the sanctuary in addition to our 7 AM and 8 AM minyanim.

We are thrilled to welcome our first in person Shabbat Scholars in Residence since March 2020, Rivka and Rabbi Daniel Alter. Shabbat morning tent and sanctuary minyanim will be at 8:45 AM this Shabbat in addition to 7 AM and 8 AM minyanim. Full Weekend Details are below.

Diane and I are God willing traveling to Israel this Saturday night. If you would like to bring us a note for the Kotel and/or names to have in mind for tefillot, please bring it Shabbat morning at shul or drop by our home before Shabbat. We will also be hosting a dinner in Jerusalem on Thursday evening for our Stamford students. We know many who are in Israel this year but just in case, please send us their contact info as well.

If you have not done so already, please sign up for volunteering for UJF's Super Sunday here.

Finally, we are deeply appreciative of the over 25 people who have signed up as Legacy donors for the first year of the Life and Legacy Program in partnership with the Stamford UJF and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. Join us on Shabbat Chanukah morning, December 4th for Legacy Shabbat as we honor our first year Legacy leaders.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

Indoor Masking Update  In accordance with the policies of the City of Stamford, the following is now in effect at CAS:
  • Vaccinated adults are not required to wear masks while inside the building.
  • Unvaccinated adults are required to wear masks at all times while inside the building.
  • Children, group leaders and parents who go into groups must wear masks inside the building while in groups. Vaccinated teens may choose not to wear a mask.
  • During indoor kiddushim, unvaccinated children and adults should continue to wear masks unless they are eating.
  • The new city guidelines still encourage Stamford residents to take reasonable precautions to stay safe, in particular recommending that all eligible people get vaccinated. See StamfordCT.gov for details.

Thank You We express our profound gratitude to everyone who has contributed thus far to our Yom Kippur appeal. Your investment as a believer in Agudath Sholom speaks to the depth of our commitment to each other to insure the long term growth of our shul. If you have not done so already, please join them using the link below.

The Rabbi Of Buchenwald - The Life And Times Of Herschel Schacter
Wednesday, November 10 - 7:30 PM
A Conversation with Rabbi JJ Schachter and Rafael Medoff. On the eve of World War II, Herschel Schacter became the rabbi of Agudath Sholom, his very first congregation. In the years to follow, Schacter would become world renowned as the U.S. army chaplain who aided survivors in liberated Buchenwald, as a leader in the Soviet Jewry protest movement, and as the first Orthodox rabbi to become chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Come hear the fascinating story of a remarkable Jewish leader whose career began right here in our own shul.

Making Mitzvah Moments Update - Welcoming New Members  We are thrilled that Agudath Sholom has welcomed so many new families to our community with over 60 people in attendance at our brunch recently. We are grateful to all of the families who volunteer to host new members throughout the year who joined our "Hospitality" crew. If you would like to be involved in welcoming people in alternative ways to shabbat hosting, we also have people who meet new members for coffee in the week, deliver welcome packs, or phone them to check how they're settling in. If this is something you might like to get involved in, we'd also love to hear from you! Please contact Hilary Goldenberg at goldenberg.hilary@gmail.com or Rabbi Cohen for more info.

Making Mitzvah Moments Update - Healing Visits  The healing visits team is a CAS group who visit people in the hospital, facilities or at home. It is a meaningful way to lift people's spirits and make a difference. You can offer as much time as you have for each person. Every week we send out a healing visit update. To join the team, contact Rabbi Cohen at rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org.

To learn about other mitzvah opportunities, join our Making Mitzvah Moments Whats App group.
