Shabbat Shalom
We hope you and your families are well!

We are excited to offer more ways to engage our community this coming Shabbat and beyond. This weekend, we are starting the 8 AM Shabbat morning minyan in the simcha room in addition to the 7 AM and 9 AM indoors and outdoors. A light COVID safe kiddush will be served following all minyanim outdoors behind the chapel.

This week we will also be expanding the number of children welcome in groups from 10 to 15 participants. Tot Shabbat/Mini Minyan will meet at 11 AM and Junior Congregation will be a "drop off" at 11 AM as well. Next week, we will be dividing the groups and offering Tot Shabbat in the chapel and Mini Minyan in the simcha room. Our B'nai MItzvah Club will meet at 10:45 AM in the tent this Shabbat and alternate weeks will be teen minyan.

We will also be offering a pre-Shabbat mincha class on the Code of Jewish Law at 6:25 PM led by Rabbi Yossie Kamman, a women's Pirkei Avot class Shabbat afternoon led by Rachel Maryles at her home, 28 Revonah Circle at 4:00 PM and a Pirkei Avot shiur in between mincha and maariv at the shul.

On Friday night, April 23rd, we will host a youth event in the tent prior to Shabbat with singing, stories, and a treat at the end and our regular Friday night minyan in the tent celebrating Israel in Torah and song.

We are thrilled to wish a warm Mazal Tov to our annual dinner honorees - our very own heroes of the pandemic - our COVID first responders: Drs. Rachel Biller, Jason Fischel, Eric Jankelovits, Sam Maryles, and Steven Thau and firefighters Michal Cohen and Max Maron.

May we share good news the days ahead. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Daniel Cohen

For security reasons, the main section of the parking lot is closed on Shabbat and Yom Tov when there are minyanim in the tent. Parking is available at the far end of the lot. However, if you are in need of closer parking due to medical consideration, security will give you access.

Important Eruv Information  Please note that North Street between Bedford and Prospect Street is not in the Eruv. The Eruv goes from the 613 parking lot to the back fence of the court house thereby excluding that area of North Street. The best way to walk to 613 from Bedford is up Hoyt Street and turn right on Prospect. For more eruv info visit http://www.cas-stamford.org/eruv.html or contact Rabbi Cohen, Rabbi Kohl or Michael Warmflash.

In the News:  Rabbi Cohen, Rabbi Kohl and Michael Feldstein will be interviewed this Tuesday on Nachum Segal Network's Road Trip with the OU Community Fair at 12:10 PM. For more info, visit https://nachumsegal.com/. Rabbi Cohen's Tuesday Parsha class will be from 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM.

Making Mitzvah Moment Story Making Mitzvah Moments is a wonderful way to moboz for mitzvot. To learn more and join the movement, click here.

Thank you Rebekah Kanefsky for sharing this beautiful story merging Beldotti, CAS and JFS for Mitzvot!

"I couldn't help but share this lovely story of hashgacha, courtesy of CAS! I had a scheduling issue with my Anachnu Shabbat meals and realized I was short two meals. I felt so bad that two of our survivors weren't going to get their Shabbat meals. I quickly called 613 and they kindly and incredibly threw together 2 last minute Shabbat meals for me (they're absolutely amazing) but Adam told me the only thing they were out of was challah.

And guess what I had in the pantry, thanks to your fundraiser today?! Loaves of bread from Beldottis! B"H I grabbed two of the loaves of bread which came in from your collection and ran to make the two deliveries. It was such a story of hashgacha and generosity!"

Making Mitzvah Moment Opportunity from Rabbi Cohen
This week, I was in Marcos Jewelers to say hi to Annie, whose husband was murdered almost a year ago last Sunday. She again thanked me and the Jewish community for their support over the year and particularly when the store reopened last June. Our MMM group has been a true light in challenging times. Let's do it again and create a 72 hour Flash Mob of Kindness. Call her, visit the store, offer words of strength and comfort and/or make a purchase. I know it will mean the world! Her phone number is 203-357-0892. Here is store info. http://marcojewelers.net/
One light can illuminate a room of darkness. May we share good news in the days ahead!

Dear Rabbi Cohen and the Congregation:

Words cannot express your thoughtfulness of not only of YOU for taking the time to speak with my son David but to my surprise seeing you in the store and myself open my heart and tell you of the grief / sadness I am going through. To my surprise, your wife Diane came down as well. It was so comforting to speak to, as if I had known her forever. It was a great day for me where I found peace in my heart to go on despite not having my husband with me. The kindness of the Jewish community has given me faith in humanity when I really needed it the most.

On behalf of my sons Andrew and David, thank you for taking the time and the many blessings I have received toward us.

Annie -

CAS Israel Advocacy Update
Israel News
Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut kick off a month of Israel at CAS! We're planning a variety of Israel-programming to give everyone the opportunity to get informed and get involved.

May 19th and May 26th 8:00 PM Stand With Us -- We are hosting virtual events with StandWithUs, aimed at preparing our pro-Israel student leaders for life on college campuses. We will discuss the transition to campus, new campus trends related to pro-Israel and anti-Israel activities, and key concepts and misconceptions about Israel, Zionism, and Judaism as well as how to convey these concepts to those less informed. The first session, on May 19th, is targeted at high-school and college students; the second session on May 26th will be targeted towards parents and the broader community. We are still looking for more student leaders to help make this a success. Please contact Rabbi Cohen or Ben Lanson (ben.lanson@gmail.com) if you are interested.

Virtual ACHI/Ben Yehuda Market  Even though you can't visit Israel, you can still shop and support the businesses there who are suffering from the lack of tourism. Browse through 55 Israeli merchants from many different categories. Achi613.org

Take a Minute to Support Israel  Supporting Israel isn't hard -- there are many things that you can do that take literally one minute. The Israel Committee now has a website built on this idea. Go to www.IsraelMinute.com for simple things that you can do, from calling your Congressional representatives to social media posts, that take only a minute or two. Check back frequently for updates and ideas for things you can do!

  • THREE-PART SERIES ON THE CONVERSO AND LATINO CONNECTION TO ISRAEL Begins on Sunday, April 25th at 1:00 PM. The perfect programming for older religious school students and adults alike, this compelling story of the Sephardic experience begins hundreds of years ago with the Jews of the Iberian Peninsula. This was a profound period of persecution, pogroms, and forced conversions (conversos). However, it was also a time of hope and survival with many of the converso community seeking to hold on to their Jewish traditions in secret, thus creating the Crypto-Jewish phenomenon wherein many descendants of the conversos are making their way back to their Jewish roots, and some are returning to the land of Israel after more than 500 years in hiding. The registration link is: https://www.jnf.org/converso
