The Three Weeks We are in the midst of a three week period of mourning for the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem, culminating with the saddest day on the Jewish calendar, the 9th of Av, Thursday, July 30th. As odd as it may seem for us to mourn a tragedy from over thousands of years ago, our ability to still mourn the loss and our obligation to do so, speaks to our recognition that the world is not as it should be and our responsibility to build a world worthy of the Messiah and the rebuilding of the Beit Hamikdash. The period is highlighted by such restrictions as no live music, celebratory gatherings, no haircuts and no weddings. |
The Nine Days begin this Tuesday evening. Restrictions include no meat, chicken or wine with the exclusion of Shabbat. To learn more, click here and visit www.aish.com, www.ou.org, and https://mizrachi.org/threeweeks. God willing, we will all merit a time of joy and redemption speedily in our days. |
Tisha B'Av Program This Tisha B'Av, join Rabbi Kurtz for a Zoom movie and discussion about "The Power of Rachel's Tears."We will go on a journey that connects the Book of Genesis, the prophet Jeremiah, and the Midrash in surprising and unexpected ways. Through this, we will emerge with a startling new understanding of why God listened to our matriarch Rachel's prayers. This production is created by Rabbi David Fohrman and is generously made available by Aleph Beta. |
