Shabbat Shalom God Bless America We are grateful for this week's historic decision by the United States to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announce the moving of its embassy to Jerusalem. The decision is more than an important benchmark-it is a milestone that corrects a historical wrong. Until today, Jerusalem was the only capital city in the world that the United States neither recognized nor declared as the location of its embassy. While expressing its position on Jerusalem, the United States recognized that any agreement on the final status of Jerusalem must be reached directly by the parties. The US reasserted its commitment to peace between Israelis and Palestinians. These actions in no way preclude future negotiations. We hope and pray that in the days ahead, this decision will be a catalyst to a lasting peace and the vision of the Temple Mount as a "house of prayer for all nations." Isaiah (56:7) We never forget Jerusalem. As King David says, "If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill." (Psalms 137:5) and as Isaiah states, "For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch" In light of this week's developments, I am reminded of a story about the first Chief Rabbi of Palestine, Rabbi Abraham Kook. After the Balfour Declaration, Rav Kook was invited to a ceremony expressing gratitude to Britain. He said: "I am not coming to thank Britain. They did not give us something which belonged to them, for the Land of Israel was already ours. Rather I am coming to bless Britain, since anyone who helps the Nation of Israel is deserved of blessing." America deserves our thanks and our blessing. God bless America. This upcoming week, we begin the celebration of Chanukah, which celebrates our renewed commitment to our faith and Torah. It celebrates the courage of the Jewish people and God's grace, miracles of old and miracles in our time. The holiday celebrates the power of light over darkness. Jerusalem embodies this vision not only for the Jewish people but humanity. God willing, we will merit a time in our days when the light of Zion will be renewed and herald a time of peace for all mankind. The Young Families and Youth Committee serves CAS children and their families from birth through the early years of elementary school as they are introduced to our vibrant Jewish community. We strive to create a welcoming environment for embracing both children and parents through family and young couples programming. Our activities are social and educational and include such as Shabbat Onegs, Potluck events, Toddler Time, Shalom Bayit chavura and nights out for couples. We also work, develop and support vibrant youth programming for children from two years old through high school. The committee works in conjunction with the Rabbi, Youth Directors, and Teen Leader. |

- CAS MEN'S CLUB -PACIFIC HOUSE 12/25 Once again we are providing the homeless residents of Pacific House good meal(s) and cheer while the other city organizations are taking a day off. In order to pull this off, we need volunteers to contribute food, gloves, hats and scarves. Another group of volunteers are needed to prepare the food in the morning of the 25th. And lastly we like a group to include kids serving the residents starting at noon. - JSU TEEN PROGRAMS AT WEST HILL AND STAMFORD HIGH JSU run more than 275 Jewish culture clubs on public high school campuses. The clubs provide Jewish teens with programs that strengthen their Jewish identity and connection to Israel. Westhill JSU will be taking place on Fridays twice a month starting next week, Friday November 3rd @2:05 PM in room 602. The Stamford high club will also be on Fridays twice a month, alternating weekends @2:05 PM in room 242. Next one Nov. 16th. Both clubs will take place for roughly forty minutes and feature different discussion elements and activities to foster a love and passion for Judaism and Jewish identity. By creating a fun, social atmosphere, and bringing cool, Jewish advisers to public school campuses, JSU reaches all types of Jewish teenagers.
