Growing up in Atlanta, one of my favorite t-shirts was red and emblazoned with the Coca Cola insignia. The words Coke were replaced with Torah. It symbolized the relevancy of Torah to refreshment and enjoying life. My father frequently told me that we are so fortunate to have the Torah as a guide. Many people spend much time and effort finding their path and purpose. We have the Torah as a prism for navigation thereby spending our time not searching for direction but in following the path. Over three thousand years ago, God gave our nation the Torah as a roadmap for spiritual greatness. The mission is to be his ambassadors spreading light in the world. On Shavuot, we celebrate the gift and re-engage with the Torah as our touchstone for living. How do we stay true to the mission? Study every day. Go out into the world and whether at home, business, on the field, day or night be guided by the eternal verities of God's Torah. This Shavuot, find your portion in Torah. Converse in the wisdom, grapple with the texts and explore the interface between the Torah and your life. Thankfully, we are offering many learning opportunities. Take the plunge and on Tuesday after the holiday make Torah a daily part of your life. Torah is the Real Thing. In the spirit of Coca Cola, living a life of Torah will teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. May we merit to see the light of Torah shine from Zion and all humanity speedily and in our days. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach, Rabbi Daniel Cohen Service Notes - We will not serve a Seudah Shlishit this Shabbat. Please eat seudah shlishit at home prior to mincha. We will study between mincha and maariv on Shabbat afternoon.
- We will hold two mincha services Tuesday, before the annual meeting - 7 PM and the regularly scheduled 8:15 PM. Maariv will follow the meeting.
Welcome - new members Barry Best and Ari & Andrea Lefkovitz and their family. This year, thank God, we welcomed 40 new families to CAS. If you know people who may be interested in learning more about the CAS community, please contact Rabbi Cohen, Matt or our membership chair Jessie Brand.

WOMEN'S SHAVUOS LEARNING Can't stay up all night? Join the women of the Stamford community for an afternoon of learning with Michal Smart, director of Judaic studies at BCDS. She will be giving a shiur for women entitled "In Search of Eishes Chayil" on the second day of Shavuot, Monday 6/13 at 5pm at the home of Malya Shmotkin - 15 Francis Ave. We hope to see you there! Rabbi Daniel Cohen's Halacha of the Week - Milk and Meat - Question: I know that there is a prohibition against eating milk after meat and together but what about meat after milk? My family has a custom on Shavuot to eat a dairy meal followed by a meat meal. Any restrictions?
- Answer: Although it is customary, after eating meat, to wait six hours before eating milk, there is no halachic obligation to do so if one wants to eat meat after consuming milk or soft cheese. (Certain hard cheeses would require one to wait six hours before eating meat.) Nevertheless, please keep in mind the following when eating meat immediately after consuming milk or soft cheeses. Before eating meat one must clean out his mouth properly from all traces of milk. This is accomplished by first eating a piece of bread and taking a drink of water. The tablecloth must be switched from a milk one to a meat one, and lastly, as ones hands must be free of all milk and cheese, it is preferable to wash them before handling meat products.
Shabbat and Shavuot Table Conversation of the Week Yitro and Ruth force each one of us to ask ourselves whether we would have opted for Judaism had we not been born Jewish. How do we rediscover it on our own so as to comprehend what it is really all about? Perhaps we should begin a process by which we take hold of every mitzvah that we have been observing for years and transform it into something radically new. With what mitzvah will you re-engage? How can you become a Jew by choice? (Inspired by Rabbi Nathan Lopes Cordozo) Kosher Alert BJ's Red Velvet Cake - Wellsley Farms Red Velvet Cake - Unauthorized OU D. LIPS product of the week: Lior Sea Salt is made in Israel, Kosher, has multiple health benefits and is sold at Stop and Shop! New CAS Love Israel Products Initiative- A Message from Lola Halperin Dear friends, I am writing to you on behalf of the Love Israeli Products Society (LIPS) that has recently formed at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford, CT. The society aims to promote Israeli products and to combat the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement. Below please find a link to the article in the Jewish Ledger that mentions LIPS and provides some information on it. So far we have been advertising Israeli products in the synagogue's bulletin, but at this point we are ready to take it to the next level. We are planning on publishing a cookbook that will promote Israeli products (the suggested title for the book is Cooking like an Israeli in America). Once the book is published, we will be selling copies of it to the community, and all proceeds will be donated to soup kitchens in Israel. I am asking that you consider contributing just one recipe utilizing at least one ingredient made in Israel (e.g., as you may already know, many of the US food stores currently sell Israeli matzo, couscous, chocolate, biscuits, cheeses, yogurts, fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits, spice, wine, etc.). If possible, please supplement your recipe with pictures. Please also indicate in which stores the Israeli product used in your recipe can be bought at. Your name will appear next to the recipe in the book. Please help us spread the word and circulate this email among friends and family members who have passion for both Israel and cooking. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. With much love and appreciation, Lola Halperin http://www.jewishledger.com/2016/03/want-boycott-israel-put-actions-principles/ Shabbat Topics & Participants Coffee & Commentary | Rabbi David Walk | Shiur | Rabbi Paysach Krohn: Like One Man - With One Heart: Is it possible to love another like you love yourself? | Sermon - Shabbat | Rabbi David Walk: Just Passing Through | Daf Yomi | Rabbi Alex Ozar | Pre-Mincha Class | Rabbi Dovid Cohen: Ruth, Dovid and the Advent of the Messianic Era | Sermon - Shavuot I | Rabbi Dovid Cohen | Sermon - Shavuot II | Rabbi Daniel Cohen | Torah Reader - Shabbat | Jay Jubas | Torah Reader - Shavuot I | Nat Samberg | Torah Reader - Shavuot II | Charlie Cohen & Harvey Berman | Weekday Schedule Daf Yomi | Tuesday-Friday 7:00 am | Shacharit | Sunday:4:45 AM/9:00 AM, Monday:7:45 AM/8:45 AM, Tuesday-Friday:6:30 AM/7:30 AM | Mincha | Sunday:8:15 PM, Monday:8:10 PM, Tuesday: 7/8:15 PM; Wednesday-Thursday:8:15 PM, Friday:7:00 PM/8:16 PM | Candles Friday | 8:11 PM | Sunday | Shavuot II | Monday | Shavuot II | Condolences - to the families of those murdered this week in Tel Aviv - Ido Ben Ari, Mila Mishayev, Ilana Naveh and Dr. Michael Feige.
