The normal process for transmission was from Moshe to the Elders to the people. In the case of the Shabbat, Moshe seeks unity. Why? The seeds of the answer emerge from Rabbi Ephraim Buchwald, founder and director of the National Jewish Outreach Program and inspiration for Shabbat Across America and our own Shabbat Across Stamford. He says, "For the price of a chicken, you can bring someone closer to Judaism." Time and again throughout our history, the Shabbat table experience serves as a magnet for family, community and rejuvenation. Abraham and Sara laid the foundations in their open door policy by welcoming everyone to their home. Moshe gathers the people for the mitzvah of Shabbat to underscore its power in creating and sustaining national identity and unity. I credit my parents with creating positive childhood experiences at our Shabbat table. The singing, numerous guests, Torah and of course the food, instilled within me a lifelong love of Judaism. This weekend, the spirit continues. This Friday night we join together across denominational lines to celebrate our common bonds and faith. We welcome the ninth graders of Maayanot for their Shabbaton to our community. In our homes, we are called to renew our appreciation for the gift of Shabbat. Yasher Koach to our Federation, my rabbinic colleagues and all of the volunteers for organizing Shabbat Across Stamford. It is truly a historic event. As we remember our beloved teacher, leader and friend, Rabbi Joseph Ehrenkranz whose Yaarzeit is this week, I cannot think of a more fitting event which embodies his eternal spirit. He sought to build an inclusive, vibrant and open community at Agudath Sholom. We are ever grateful for his legacy and with God's help will continue to build on his vision. May his memory be for a blessing. Please join me this Wednesday evening for a lecture in his memory by the renowned Rabbi Benjamin Blech. click here for information. May we join together for many more celebratory Shabbatot in the future. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom Rabbi Daniel Cohen Welcome - Welcome to Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, the community Scholar in Residence, who will join us for Shabbat morning services
- Welcome to the students and teachers who are joining us this Shabbat for the 9th grade Maayanot High School Shabbaton. Thank you to all of the host families.
