The Song of the Universe

King David writes in Psalm 19: The Heavens declare the glory of G-d and the firmament reveals His handiwork. We live much of our life indoors and even when we are outside we are bombarded by artificial light at night. We look down at our personal devices when we walk and sometimes straight ahead but how often do we gaze above? Yet, the majesty of G-d fills the universe.

The recent success of the Rosetta, a robotic probe, making the first ever landing on a comet reawakened this sentiment within me. The discoveries and celestial insights will be awe inspiring. Even more so was a comment offered by one of the European scientists. He said that the comet seemed to be emitting a "song" in the form of oscillations in its magnetic field. Though emitted below the range of human hearing, it was made audible by increasing the frequencies by a factor of about 10,000. What song is it singing? We do not know the words but its existence speaks to a Divine score and unifying theme being played throughout our universe. As the nights grow longer, find some time to hear the music and recite Psalm 19. The sounds and words will life our souls and enable to tap into this higher frequency of living every day .

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen
