| | | Unity of Purpose or Purpose of Unity? In the Torah portion of Yitro, Rashi contrasts the unity of the Jewish people and the unity of the Egyptians. At Sinai, the nation stood as one people with one heart. The Egyptians pursued the Jews with one heart as one nation.
What is the different in the descriptions? They reflect two kinds of unity. The Egyptians united for the purpose of self-aggrandizement. The Jews united for a higher common purpose. Throughout history, our people coalesced around our shared commitment to Torah, Israel and the People.
In this spirit, I want to share a recent important development in our commitment to Torah. Please take a moment to read a statement from the RCA about a historic agreement between the American Rabbinate and the Chief Rabbinate in Israel. Second, join us for a Shabbat dedicated to Israel at our AIPAC Yakar Shabbat, and finally, our theme for this year's annual dinner is Unity in Community. We are blessed with phenomenal chairs and honorees. We look forward to a wonderful celebration and would be honored by your support and participation. May we always stand united as a community and nation devoted to Torah and Israel. Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Daniel Cohen www.40daystoabetteryou.com rabbicohen@cas-stamford.org|203-252-8252|Rabbi Cohen's podcasts |

COMMUNITY CHESED HELPERS An important role of the Chesed committee is outreach to the Shul's elderly and homebound, who are often isolated and lack a lifeline to our synagogue. We are asking for volunteers, from our congregation, willing to reach out to these members to offer an ear, identify areas of need, make a visit, or offer a ride to a doctor's appointment. Even small gestures mean a great deal and do not take much time. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Vivian Weiss at 203-323-0909 or vivianweiss@gmail.com. If you are aware of any elderly or homebound shul members in need of outreach, please notify Rabbi Cohen.
WELCOME TO OUR SYNAGOGUE PROGRAM As you know, every Shabbat we station ushers at the doors in the sanctuary to welcome people, assist them and enhance the dignity of the service. In an effort to create an even warmer environment, we are expanding the usher roles to include a greeter in the lobby from 9-10:30 am. Please join the usher team. We need you and your smile. To find out more and sign up, contact Mitchell Bell. | |
