| | | One of the main themes in this week's Parsha is leadership. On the one hand, Noach merits to be saved from the flood due to his righteousness. On the other hand, in contrast to Avraham, he isolates himself from the world and does not possess the vision and will to save even more people beyond his family. Nations rise and fall based on the quality of leadership. The Jewish people follow the Abrahamic model staying rooted in tradition yet seeking to build and broaden community.
Our congregation is a member of the Orthodox Union, the national body of synagogues. We are privileged this Shabbat to host the Chairman of the Board, Steve Savitsky. I encourage everyone to hear him over the course of Shabbat. We are looking forward to Steve's visit to our community! His wisdom, vision and engaging personality will spark ideas and renewed appreciation for our role as Orthodox Jews in the modern world. I had the pleasure of hosting Steve and his wife Genie as a Rabbi in West Hartford and Denver and know that our congregation will be motivated and moved not only by his words but model for menschlechkeit and leadership within the national Jewish community.

Savitsky of Hewlett, LI, served three two-year terms as Orthodox Union President and is now Chairman of the Board. He has also been President of the Vaad Hakashrus of the Five Towns and Far Rockaway; founder and President of the Kew Gardens Hills Eruv; President of Congregation Ansche Chesed in Hewlett, Long Island; and Chairman of the Board of Mesivta Ohr Torah, Forest Hills. He is currently President and Chairman of the Board of ATC Health Care Services. He graduated from Yeshiva University with a degree in Economics and received an MBA from The Bernard Baruch Graduate School of Business of CUNY with a specialization in finance and marketing. |

LINKING GENERATIONS OF THE SHOAH-Our 2nd Generation Group began in July 2012. We are a group of approximately fifty members ranging in age from 40 and up and we come from all over CT and Westchester County. Our monthly meetings take place in Westport, CT (usually at the UJA offices) every second Tuesday of the month. Spouses of 2G members as well as 3rd Generation often attend our general meetings. In our first year of existence, we have made great strides. In addition to creating our mission statement, "To honor the spirit and courage of our parents and those who perished or survived and rebuilt their lives. And to remember them and dedicate in their honor good works and healing deeds to benefit and enlighten future generations so the horrors of the Shoah will never be revisited upon humanity" we are also exploring and sharing the unique experiences, awareness, bonds, burdens, and responsibilities that come with being Children of Holocaust survivors.
