We hope you and your families are well and had a wonderful Yom Tov! We are excited to celebrate at our annual dinner this Sunday. Thank you to our outstanding journal chairs - Marla Lewis, Rhonda Schaffer-Maron, Leah Miller and Doreen Nusbaum - our dinner chairs - Judith Bernstein, Stella Cohen, Navah Zizmor - and our executive liaison, Meg Haron. Thank you to everyone who has responded to our Annual Dinner. It is our most significant fundraiser of the year and your investment makes a difference! Your partnership is a vital way to say thank you to our worthy honorees who exemplify the best of people in our community who instilled light in challenging times. Mazal Tov to our honorees and their families - frontline physicians Dr. Jason Fischel, Dr. Eric Jankelovits, Dr. Sam Maryles, Dr. Richard Morgulis, Dr. Rachel Biller Redlich, Dr. Steven Thau and firefighters Michal Cohen and Max Maron. We are pleased to announce our updated COVID guidelines which went into effect on Thursday. Please see details below. We express our deep gratitude to Dr. Nimrod Dayan whose wisdom and guidance has been invaluable in navigating synagogue protocol and safety during this past year. Join us on Shabbat morning for minyanim at 7, 8 and 9 indoors and outdoors. Youth groups begin at 10 AM. A light COVID friendly kiddush with pastries from Beldottis and various salads and proteins from Soosh will be served following all minyanim outdoors behind the chapel. Contact Kim (kmahoney@cas-stamford.org) to sponsor a kiddush. We continue to offer our prayers for the state and people of Israel. It is crucial for us to mobilize our voices in support of Israel and the bonds between America and Israel. Thank you to Ben Lanson for leading our Israel Advocacy group. Join us for a program with Stand with Us this May 26th at 8 PM and/or to learn more contact Ben at ben.lanson@gmail.com. Wishing you and families a Shabbat Shalom and may we share good news in the days ahead, Rabbi Daniel Cohen
Updated COVID Guidelines starting May 20th, 2021 All guidelines in accordance with new State of CT regulations effective May 19, 2021. - Indoors - Masks required for non vaccinated individuals. Masks optional for those who are vaccinated. Seats will remain with six feet social distancing.
- Outdoors - Masks will not be required outdoors for anyone and social distance seating will be diminished to 3 ft.
- Torah Reading - The plexiglass separating the Torah readers from the person receiving the aliyah will be removed. Following your aliyah, please do not stand on the other side of the shulchan but return to your seat.
- Kiddush - Since kiddush is outdoors, masks are no longer required. We will still provide a COVID-safe kiddush for the benefit of all our members. Seating will be available, weather permitting.
- Contact Tracing and Sign Up - We will no longer maintain sign ups for weekday and Shabbat. However due to security measures, all people entering the parking lot by vehicle on Shabbat morning will be asked for their name and checked off on the pre registered list. Sign up via email with Kim at kmahoney@cas-stamford.org
Youth Guidelines: All adults attending groups must continue to wear a mask inside CAS. This is to model the behavior that we expect from the children who are required to wear a mask under CAS policy. As a reminder, children aged 2 are encouraged to wear a mask and all children under 12 and any children over 12 who are not yet fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask.
More good news! We have made it even easier to come and daven on Shabbat. Children are now permitted to accompany their parents to minyan provided that they are able to sit with you during davening. Try coming to a 9am Shabbat minyan with your child(ren) and then drop them off at groups at 10am while you come back and enjoy the rest of your davening experience.
If you have not signed up for groups yet this week, there is still time! |

A Message from Duvie Shapiro - our Guest Chazzan for June and the High Holidays Dear Congregants of Congregation Agudath Shalom.
Rabbi Cohen asked that I write a little bio on myself so you can get to know me a little better prior to joining you for Shabbos Parshas Shlach. Being that I will also be joining you for the Yomim Noraim as your Chazzan Be"Ezrat Hashem, I felt I would take this opportunity to personally introduce myself. I originally come from Monsey New York, and now currently live with my wife and 4 beautiful children in Ramat Eshkol, Jerusalem Israel. I've been singing since I was little child, joining the Miami Boys Choir when I was 9. I'm the nephew of Congregants Sandy and Lil Shapiro, so that should give you an idea of my Yichus when it comes to singing and Chazzanut. I come from an extremely musical family and alot of what I know and do today comes from my father and his brothers, Uncle Sandy being one of them. They have been singing in Shuls for congregations since they were children and myself and the rest of our generation are continuing on with that tradition. The one thing I could say that Shapiro's put the biggest emphasis on when it comes to Chazzanut, is connecting with the Congregation they are representing. We take it very seriously, and view it as our responsibility to uplift and inspire everyone involved with our voices and tunes. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be joining you for Parshas Shlach as well as humbled by the opportunity to be representing you for the Yomim Noraim. I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon! Shabbat Shalom! Duvie |
