Israel Advocacy Action Plan - Our Vision and Our Values
If I forget thee O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget it's skill - Psalms 137:5
In the words of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, "No people ever loved a city more. We saw Jerusalem destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, captured and recaptured 44 times, and yet in all those years, wherever Jews lived they never ceased to pray about Jerusalem, face Jerusalem, speak the language of Jerusalem, remember it at every wedding, in every home they built, and at the high points of the Jewish year." Today God is calling on us all to be Guardians of Zion. Never has this been more important. We must all stand up for the one home our people has ever known and the one city our people has loved more than any other. We are all shagrirey medinat Yisrael (ambassadors for the State of Israel) and we must all make Israels case in a world that sometimes fails to see the beauty we know is here. Let us all take on that task."
I believe each of us is tasked with this mission. The stories of the Exodus we are reading now reaffirm the centrality of Israel to our faith and future. This week, the Rabbinical Council of America released this bulletin that matches our mission. Reflect on it and ask yourself what you can do. One important upcoming event: reserve Sunday, June 4 for the Celebrate Israel Parade - celebrateisraelny.org. March with one of our local schools, be a spectator, or join CAS! We plan to send a CAS delegation - please contact me if you would like to help plan and participate.
Another important event: Sign up for AIPAC's Policy Conference. The $100 discount ends Sunday night, Jan. 29th. Enter Code PS17CAS.
Am YIsrael Chai. Your standing with Israel counts!
Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Daniel Cohen

BULLETIN: the Rabbinical Council of America encourages Jews of all ages and everywhere to commit to the values of Religious Zionism and to seek opportunities to actively advance and strengthen the State of Israel. Avenues to do so include:
Aliyah: Joining Israel's ranks as active, productive citizens by making aliyah is the optimal way to fulfill the ideal of Religious Zionism and to strengthen Israel.
Visit: Israel should be the preferred destination for recreational travel and when choosing a vacation property, Pesach program, or school-vacation trip. Young people should participate in a program such as Birthright, a year studying Torah in an Israeli yeshiva or seminary after high school, and a study year abroad in Israel during college.
Awareness: In addition to focusing on Israel's welfare, individuals, schools, and communities should regularly integrate conversation about contemporary Israeli affairs, history, ideas, and culture into conversations, curricula, and public programming.
Dialogue: We must dialogue with all Jews and Jewish organizations - particularly those whose religious or political outlooks differ from our own - in order to encourage their participation and support for educational, political, financial, and other initiatives that strengthen Israel.
Advocacy: We must initiate and take part in existing advocacy projects, programs, and initiatives that counter current efforts to damage, endanger, or destroy Israel. We must educate our children in high school to defend and advocate for Israel on secular university campuses and beyond. We must seek out opportunities to project to neighbors, co-workers, and politicians the increasingly vital role that Israel plays in the world's economy, security, health, and as a moral exemplar.
Investment: We must strengthen Israel's economy by investing in Israel Bonds and by doing business with Israeli companies.
Charity: We must include worthy Israeli institutions as part of our charitable giving.
Ivrit: Given its centrality in the historic and modern Jewish experience, individuals and institutions must promote knowledge of and fluency in Hebrew.
Tefilah: Diaspora Jews must pray regularly for the welfare of the State of Israel and its people.
