Updates for Holidays   This Saturday night and Sunday is Hoshana Raba marking the end of the High Holiday season. Please note minyanim times are 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM. Hoshanot will be available for sale at the minyanim. We are looking forward to celebrating a beautiful Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah together. We sit in the Sukkah on Shemini Atzeret, but do not recite the special bracha for sitting in the Sukkah. We recite Yizkor on Shemini Atzeret morning. We will offer pre Simchat Torah Hakafot for nursery age children in the Shabbat park in partnership with Chabad and Young Israel and Hakafot for K/1-4th grade at Agudath Sholom. For more info, contact Dovi. Monday night Mincha is at 5:55 PM followed by learning and Maariv. Hakafot will begin at approximately 7:00 PM. We will offer a light kiddush following the first Hakafah and resume with the remainder of the Hakafot and Maariv concluding the festivities at approximately 8:30 PM. On Simchat Torah morning, we will offer an early service at 7:00 AM in the chapel and sanctuary at 8:45 AM. Hakafot will begin at 9:45 AM. Aliyot will be at 10:30 AM for men in the sanctuary and women in the chapel. Youth Groups will meet at 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM, break for Kol Hanearim and the Chatanim and then resume from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. High Holidays RABBI COHEN'S HIGH HOLIDAY SERMONS Rosh Hashanah: What Truly Matters Yom Kippur: Becoming a Jew - A Yom Kippur for the Ages CAS Announcements NOTICE REGARDING ETROGIM PURCHASED FROM CAS If you purchased an etrog grown in Israel, such as the ones distributed through CAS, then you have had the privilege of using one that was imbued with the sanctity of the Shemittah (Sabbatical) year. Due to its heightened level of sanctity, it cannot be simply discarded after the holiday. One option is to consume the estrog. However, it should be used strictly for eating and not other purposes e.g. besamim (spices). Any unused part of the etrog should be placed in a separate bag before discarding. The second option is to leave the etrog uncovered until it dries out to the point of being inedible. Once it has reached that point, you may wrap it up and discard it in a respectable manner. Congregation Agudath Sholom has been a part of my mother's life since she was an adolescent. She grew up, married, and raised a family here. Her relationships with individuals and the CAS community as a whole were a foundation for life. She did service. She showed up. She celebrated and mourned. My mother taught me many lessons simply by how she lived, what she said, and what she did. I would like to think that were she to be asked, she would have happily joined the stroll to celebrate a special birthday of a member of the congregation. My mother's memory is short. I know for sure, in the moment, your faces, your children, your voices and your celebratory spirit was deeply moving for her. Never one to seek the spotlight, it was exciting to have her be the center of attention. She was smiling on the inside and the outside. It is an honor to see one's parent be honored.
